The debate : Should we save the rainforest or should it be cut down. there are two sides, of which I am inthe middle of.

I brought this up beucase in Social studies class we are having a debate about this. I had to be on the side that wanted to cut it down, I was playing the devil's advocate. I'm not sure which said I am really on. How about you??

The rainforest is very high in value.
not as a resource, thogh its value is just as high as so.
but as a natural part of the environment.
should we cut it down, we shall face the effects of our actions.
effects that I don't think we will like.
we should look into different ways of construction other then wood.
such as steel buildings and concrete.
also, we should help educate the south american, african, indo china areas.

I know that many people are already looking into other ways of construction, and many buildings are already made of steel.

we need to save our rainforests. i think people forget the fact that tress and plant take in carbon dioxide and emit oxygen, now as our planet gets ever larger (in terms of people etc.) and we decrease the size of our rainforest we are kind of shoting ourselves in the foot.

i think the rainforest is a necesity. if we were to cut down even more we'd see much greater levels of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere and in our air. also it's a huge habitat for idk the # of species there are so many. we use it as a resource too. and also, for the whole burning it to clear it faster then planting new trees in excuse, my parents a long time ago were in that area of the world and they were talking to a farmer who said once u burn that soil it's dead and things wont grow in it on their own.

We have no right to harm a forest as ancient, vast and vital as the amazon

Some rainforest trees are 200 feet tall!
The Amazon basin is mostly flat. There are not many big mountains. The water that falls in the forests and in the mountains that surround the forest to the north and west flows slowly toward the Atlantic Ocean via hundreds of small, medium and large rivers. In fact, the Amazon river is the largest river in the world. At its widest point, the river stretches almost 100 miles across. Imagine trying to cross that! The Amazon rainforest is roughly three billion acres in size – about the size of Western Europe. Scientists believe that about 7-8 million acres of forest is being cut down each year. This is the same as losing 12 football fields per minute of forest! The Amazon is full of trees. In the Amazon, you can find over 300 different species of trees in an area the size of a city block! Many of these trees would have taken dozens of years to reach their full height, with canopies that can reach 200 feet into the air. The tops of the trees are filled with birds, insects and plants that need the sunlight that is only found at the top of the forest. Because there is so much rainfall in the Amazon (6-12 feet each year!), certain parts of the forest are flooded by rivers during the wettest months. The trees in these areas are able to spend months with their trunks underwater. Most of these areas will dry out as the rivers recede, while others remain flooded nearly all year.

Yeah, in addition to the rain forest being very important to the world.
its just damn beautiful as well.
its sureal when your actually standing there by these gigantic trees.
so enchanting.
the rainforest is sacred and spirtual too.
if you have any respect for this world at all.
you think twice before cutting down a tree thats been growing for hundreds of years.
any tree is to important to kill anyway.
from a month old sapling.
to a 1000 year old african beauty.
I man be a tree huger.
but that tree gives you life.
and you should thank it.

Not to mention allot of drugs for modern medicine came from the rain forest
And realisticly speaking it is NOT far fetched to say the cure for cancer, TB, malaria, AIDS and many other dieses could be hidden in that forest.
If we chop it all down
we'll lose it forever
All the thousands of species yet to be discovered

you can never forget that the whole world is connected.
THE WORLD IS SMALL!!! You can not forget how small the world is.
we are all connected, if there are dioxins being released in the air in china, it will overtime make it to the other side of the world

2005- tsunami- scientests say that alot of the weird weather(lower then average, higher then average tempurtures, extream hurricanes(Katrina), super flooding, monsunes, typhoons, tornados) have been effected by the huge tsunami that happened in south-east asia, as it completely interupted water currents, and as we know, there is water everywhere in the world

if you cut down the rainforest, not only will be loose all of the specices and trees, but we will also have lost alot of what you might call(cleansing of the earth and water) as it cleans the air and water of toxins, pollution, and minimilizes the green house effect.

we can not cut down the rainforest, because it would create a 'tsunami' an effect that would be defestating to the enviroment. except the wave-like effect would reach each square inch of the globe, from asia to north america to australia.

WE MUST SAVE THE RAINFOREST OR WE WILL BE IN TROUBLE AS A LIVING HUMAN RACE
