HOW DO LOSS WEIGHT?

Like this :

Diets

"hey guys can you recommend me a good diet because I hate sports"

Fad diets like Atkins' or South Beach do work, for a time. It is natural human nature, once you attain the weight you want to keep, you will stop the diet. And then you will take back all the kilos faster than you lost them.

This is why following miracle 2 weeks diets will never work. You don't need a diet to lose weight. You need a lifestyle change.

Ergo, eat less, and better. You don't really have to cut the pizzas out forever. Just eat 2 slices instead of 6.

Spot weight loss

"hey guys my thighs are huge how can I lose weight only there"

You can't. Spot weight loss is a myth.

When one loses weights, one loses fat all over his or her body.
You can't make fat magically disappear in a certain area by doing muscular exercices limited to that spot. When all's done you'll just look out of proportion.

Starving oneself

"hey guys I found out that if I half-starve myself I lose lots of weight very fast!"

And the weight will come back even faster once you do have to eat again.

When you starve yourself, your body goes into "oh shit" mode and begins to eat into its reserves, muscles first. That's why you lose weight fast when you don't eat. But then, all the energy from the food you eat is converted to more fat instead of being used up naturally.

That means that once you start eating again, you'll recover everything and then some. As an added bonus, you will have lost muscular mass. Not worth it.

Magic formulas

"hey guys what's an easy effortless typically american way to lose weight?"

There aren't any.

The only thing there is : calories in > calories out = weight gain. Calories out > calories in = weight loss.

In other words, eat less and exercice more. Losing weight isn't a no effort affair. Be focused and disciplined, or prepare to be dissapointed.

Magic workouts

"hey guys dude #12645 has a great workout/dubious machine for only 3 easy payments of 39.95$!!!1!!!!!11"

Unnecessary.

Sure, if commercial workouts make you feel fuzzy inside and it works for you, more power to you. If you need to throw a large amount of money to maintain dedication to your goals, so be it.

However, I pay 30$/month for judo and run around on occasion, and it works just as well.

Sports

"hey guys I'm not very athletic and I hate sports and when I sweat I stink a lot what should I do?"

Run around.

That, or do an organised sport. Organised sports (ie team sports, or just group practice) are a great way to make friends, forget about life for a moment and lose gratuitous amounts of weight. Martial arts in particular appeal to a lot of teens, are everywhere, cheap, and provide mostly good workouts. Be sure that there is a conditioning component to the classes though. A lot of martial arts get away with punching air while standing still.

Aside from that, the usual culprits are all good choices.

Exercice

"hey guys what should I do to lose weight?"

Aerobic exercice sweats off a lot of pounds. However aerobic exercice alone isn't generally sufficient. Do some muscular exercices as well. Muscles eat more calories than fat (lol duh) and allow you to artificially raise your metabolism.

A nice balance of the two is necessary. That's why joining a sport is the way to go IMO. Besides, it's funnier than running and doing push-ups.

My experience

"hey guy what are your, like, credentials to be writing this?"

High school level biology and college level PE classes. Seriously it's not rocket science, just that a lot of people tend to fall in the claws of snake-oil vendors that want to make them believe losing weight is completely easy and effortless. Not so. At least, not if you want to keep the kilos off.

I am 5'11. As an ex-fattie, I weighted a maximum of 210 pounds. There's something about breaking the 200 pounds that's a great eye-opener and motivator.

I am now 163 pounds after a year of blood and sweat, but very few tears. I did it by doing just what I wrote above : I ate less and better and exerciced more. I still got to taste life's sugary and fat pleasures : just less of it. That way I was able to not crack and maintain my rhythm until I hit my current weight.

I'm not ripped, but I look healthy and also somewhat athletic. Not bad for jacket wrestling 3x/week and eating less.

Resume

"hey guy, lol tl;dr, can you resume please?"

Eat more.
Exercice less.

I mean the other way around.

That's about it for now. Feel free to add.

"What is the best protein powder for gaining muscle?"

Protein is protein, and from any good source is fine. It doesn't matter what brand you buy, it's what else is in it that matters.

"My friend's taking creatine, but I don't want to take steroids to get big. What shall I do?"

 Creatine isn't steroids, how about you stop being so ignorant and do your homework next time before showing yourself up.

"I want to train, but I don't want to get too big."

You don't get big accidently. You'd have to use a lot of knowledge, put in a lot of hard work as well as being dedicated to achieving your goals.

"If I do x amount of push ups or sit ups each day will I get bigger/stronger?"

No, you'll be overtraining.

"I've seen the ____ product on the TV, it's guarenteed to get you results, even ______ advertising it uses it daily."

Have you ever heard of an endorsement deal/sponsorship, I doubt they do. Money drives a majority of people, of course they're going to say that.

"I want to get bigger/stronger, which supplements do I take?"

You don't think about that first off, you get a proper diet plan in, then a proper training program and look at a supplement or two after that dependant on your goals.

"I want to work out, but I don't want to be like meatheads/jocks or work out around them."

Not all of us have jock-like personalities and stereotypcal tendencies (just care about looking in the mirror, try to sleep with as many women as we can and bully others - you get assholes everywhere in the world from all sorts of social groups). Athletes in general are actually fairly smart, mentally and physically strong, so dont categorise us with idiots. People like yourself are the actual idiots for being so narrow minded towards this group of people you've never interacted with. If you're a good athlete, 99% of the time you'll be well educated in human biology/performance from your sporting experiences/education. You'll be aware of sports psychology and many other aspects involved. Meatheads are probably very rare infact, at least where I come from.

A few more for failures. Random tidbits I picked up during my gym tenure :

Resistance

"hey guys if I do like 100 push-ups every day will I become big"

No, you'll just become sore. Chances are that if you can do 100 push-ups you're already pretty big. That, or nobody taught you how to do push-ups correctly. Or you do them on the knees like a girl. For convenience's sake, let's talk about regular manly push-ups.

Usually you should stay between 8 to 15 reps of an exercice and 3 series if you want to train for strength. If you do too much you'll fuck yourself up. The way to becoming strong isn't doing more - it's doing the same and adding weight. Push-ups are a good way to warm up. If you want to be more serious, look into a gym membership.

Furthermore, if you train the SAME group of muscle every day, you'll hit a roof. Your muscles will bail off, they'll curse you out and never call you back again until you let them have some good rest. You won't progress anymore.

By the way, I can chain only 36 push-ups and I'm considered "above average" by normal college standards (38 is "well over average"). Make of that what you will.

Muscle groups

"hey guys if I do only bench press will I become big"

Maybe. But you'll also fuck up your posture.

Too much of something is never good. For every muscle or muscle group, there is a opposite. Think of it like the biceps/triceps relation : pushing/pulling. For abs that would be the back muscles. For pectorals that would be the shoulder area.

What happens if you overtrain a group of muscles without training their opposite, is that you'll look out of proportion. Imagine someone with huge biceps and flabby triceps, for example. Instead of getting chicks you'll be getting flak for being a retard. This is why, if you decide to train, make your program complete.

Reps

"hey guys I do 3 series of 8 reps..."

You're retarded then.

Usually you should note reps not as a whole number, but as a range. The reason is that this way, it will rely less on your subjectivity. If I tell you to do 3x10-12 and you do 12, even if you struggle at the 12th, you know it's time to move up in weight because you really should just do 10, whereas if I tell you to do 3x10 and you do 10, you have to rely on yourself to know when is the appropriate time to move up in resistance.

And everyone knows relying on you isn't the best idea ever.

Time

"hey guys I was training for 3 hours today and..."

Get out of the gym. Now.

Chances are that by staying that long, you're over-training. For someone like you and me, an hour on musculation plus whatever you do as cardio works.

The best way to loose weight safely is to just cut out fatty foods, and things you dont REALLY need such a crisps, chocolates etc.
I lost 5 lbs in one week eating cerial for breakfast with semi or skimmed milk…cerial such a weetabix (as this helps digestion) with fruit such a grapes (not bananna as this is hig in carbs)…for lunch, brown break with sliced white meat or ham woth plenty of salad and water to drink with some fruit.
then for dinner, steamed fish/chicked with salad or veg..try and cut out big amounts of potato, but if you do have potatio have a jacket spud.
no sauces such as mayonnaise etc…
drink plenty of water..and dont snack of crips & choccie….snack on fruit, rice crackers or low fat yoghurt. that was 5 lbs on one week, without excersie! imagine how much more i could have lost in that week with some gentle excersice!!!!!
hope this helps.
