HOW DO LOSS WEIGHT?
Like this :
Diets
"hey guys can you recommend me a good diet because I hate sports"
Fad diets like Atkins' or South Beach do work, for a time. It is natural human nature, once you attain the weight you want to keep, you will stop the diet. And then you will take back all the kilos faster than you lost them.
This is why following miracle 2 weeks diets will never work. You don't need a diet to lose weight. You need a lifestyle change.
Ergo, eat less, and better. You don't really have to cut the pizzas out forever. Just eat 2 slices instead of 6.
Spot weight loss
"hey guys my thighs are huge how can I lose weight only there"
You can't. Spot weight loss is a myth.
When one loses weights, one loses fat all over his or her body.
You can't make fat magically disappear in a certain area by doing muscular exercices limited to that spot. When all's done you'll just look out of proportion.
Starving oneself
"hey guys I found out that if I half-starve myself I lose lots of weight very fast!"
And the weight will come back even faster once you do have to eat again.
When you starve yourself, your body goes into "oh shit" mode and begins to eat into its reserves, muscles first. That's why you lose weight fast when you don't eat. But then, all the energy from the food you eat is converted to more fat instead of being used up naturally.
That means that once you start eating again, you'll recover everything and then some. As an added bonus, you will have lost muscular mass. Not worth it.
Magic formulas
"hey guys what's an easy effortless typically american way to lose weight?"
There aren't any.
The only thing there is : calories in > calories out = weight gain. Calories out > calories in = weight loss.
In other words, eat less and exercice more. Losing weight isn't a no effort affair. Be focused and disciplined, or prepare to be dissapointed.
Magic workouts
"hey guys dude #12645 has a great workout/dubious machine for only 3 easy payments of 39.95$!!!1!!!!!11"
Unnecessary.
Sure, if commercial workouts make you feel fuzzy inside and it works for you, more power to you. If you need to throw a large amount of money to maintain dedication to your goals, so be it.
However, I pay 30$/month for judo and run around on occasion, and it works just as well.
Sports
"hey guys I'm not very athletic and I hate sports and when I sweat I stink a lot what should I do?"
Run around.
That, or do an organised sport. Organised sports (ie team sports, or just group practice) are a great way to make friends, forget about life for a moment and lose gratuitous amounts of weight. Martial arts in particular appeal to a lot of teens, are everywhere, cheap, and provide mostly good workouts. Be sure that there is a conditioning component to the classes though. A lot of martial arts get away with punching air while standing still.
Aside from that, the usual culprits are all good choices.
Exercice
"hey guys what should I do to lose weight?"
Aerobic exercice sweats off a lot of pounds. However aerobic exercice alone isn't generally sufficient. Do some muscular exercices as well. Muscles eat more calories than fat (lol duh) and allow you to artificially raise your metabolism.
A nice balance of the two is necessary. That's why joining a sport is the way to go IMO. Besides, it's funnier than running and doing push-ups.
My experience
"hey guy what are your, like, credentials to be writing this?"
High school level biology and college level PE classes. Seriously it's not rocket science, just that a lot of people tend to fall in the claws of snake-oil vendors that want to make them believe losing weight is completely easy and effortless. Not so. At least, not if you want to keep the kilos off.
I am 5'11. As an ex-fattie, I weighted a maximum of 210 pounds. There's something about breaking the 200 pounds that's a great eye-opener and motivator.
I am now 163 pounds after a year of blood and sweat, but very few tears. I did it by doing just what I wrote above : I ate less and better and exerciced more. I still got to taste life's sugary and fat pleasures : just less of it. That way I was able to not crack and maintain my rhythm until I hit my current weight.
I'm not ripped, but I look healthy and also somewhat athletic. Not bad for jacket wrestling 3x/week and eating less.
Resume
"hey guy, lol tl;dr, can you resume please?"
Eat more.
Exercice less.
I mean the other way around.

That's about it for now. Feel free to add.
