Ignore them. Some old people are like that, they lose their ability to do alot of stuff they used to enjoy so just let it go.

Is he like that with anybody or just you?
Maybe because they do that is because you or your relatives don';t spend much time with him and always left alone.....Thats why hes trying to get all of your attention, maybe because he justs need a little talk and understanding.......:pacifier:

he does it with everyone...kinda hate going over there because he yells at my grandma. every time i end up having to yell "calm your ass down!" just to break up the arguments. bad part, my grandmother had a stroke about a year ago and she forgot some things so yea

Treat him like a normal fucking person. Now if his arguing is incoherent then just end it and walk away. But don't be a smartass about it.

Wow, I'm surprised by the mixed responses here...
Unfortunately some old people are genuinely angry people because of the times they lived through and the way their own lives turned out. Grandparents of OUR generation lived through paramount decades that defined the future of the United States. The 50's seem long gone, but my grandparents came to Ellis Island 60 something years ago with twenty bucks in their pockets and a rough village upbringing. Not that everybody's grandparents were immigrants, but they were all of an older generation where it was survival of the fittest from the minute they were out of the cradle. They learned how to pinch a penny, pick their battles and raise children. It's nothing personal: it's unfortunate circumstances that have unfortunately hardened their hearts over time. It's not an excuse for his behavior but at least it's an explanation. Age has a funny way of making you bitter.

I personally find it hilarious when my grandpa goes off on a rant about how he hates chairs without arms, or the word, 'guestimate' LOL but if your grandfather's yelling goes beyond simple elderly bitterness you need to find a solution to the problem. And NO contrary to the common consensus approaching him is not a great idea. He'll see it as hostile or rebellious. The best thing to do is to try to make things pleasant to avoid the yelling in the first place - the less problems to get angry about the less yelling. Simple things like keeping things in order, or just agreeing to his stupid opinion every so often, will help deescalate the anger. Remember that behind every angry person is a sad soul. As hard as it is, be sympathetic to his angered and hardened heart. Don't pick up fights with him if you can avoid them. When he starts on his tangents, try nipping them in the bud before they start. If you had an example of what he argues about maybe I can help give you some 'one liners' that would end them. Hope this helps.
