Will smoking straight tobacco with no additives be just as harmful as smoking commercial cigarettes?

Tobacco itself isn't carcinogenic right? It's just all the chemicals that the companies mix in it right?

And yes I'm aware that there will still be tar

I don't plan on smoking tobacco, this is just out of curiosity.

It's possible it's slightly less harmful, but really not by any appreciable amount.

Wrong. While tobacco itself is not carcinogenic, the the compounds given off in the smoke from burning tobacco are, like all such chemicals, very carcinogenic. As you say:

And yes I'm aware that there will still be tar

and the tar is the carcinogen.

Good, not a good habit to get into.

I second the above post.

For christ's sake, if you're going to poison and kill yourself with anything, don't do it with tobacco.

Lol calm down please I'm never going to smoke tobacco. I just know some people who think they're being healthy by rolling their own cigs, so I just wanted to ask about it.

From what I understand the tobacco growers that grow tobacco commcercially receive government subsidies and the tobacco is grown with radioactive fertilizer and it is grown in the same soil so the radation builds up. This is one of the main causes of cancer coming from tobacco use.

You understand incorrectly, while it's possible some small contribution comes from radioactivity the vat majority of the carcinogenic potential of smoking comes from the benzopyrenes and other combustion products.

No it's not good for u ever but that doesn't change the fact that some ways r safer than others which was what the question asked

Anything that you smoke its better to vaporize it, than burn it, and its even better to not do it at all...

Right but the harmful elements involved with smoking come primarily as a result of the combustion process. Using vaporization, or portable vaporization (e-cigarettes) to get the nicotine is much safer than combustion. Nicotine still isnt great for you but its better to get only the nicotine without the tar and particulates.

That is not entirely true. There are certain ways to prepare tobacco so that it is virtually harmless. Nasal Snuff and Snus being perfect examples. Of course, the negative effects of nicotine are always there, but nicotine is not carcinogenic by itself.
