Im gearing up for an anti-bullying week at my High School. For those of you that don't know me very well. I'm 17 and a senior at my high School and a part of the GSA (gay Straight Alliance) Support club. We've been discussing plans for an anti-bullying week and I, being a new "leader" of the GSA was tasked with putting it together. I was hoping for some help from you guys with some ideas. And this post DOES belong in this thread. Its for those who have been victims of Gay Hate Crimes in School. and by in school i mean on School grounds (i.e Playgrounds, feilds, etc) the School bus and during any school sponsored events.

I'd also like to take the time, to remember, a boy was killed on Tuesday, February 12, 2008, the 2 year anniversary of his death is on the Horizon. for those who don't know, his name is Lawrence (Larry) King, he was an openly gay 15 year old, he was very flamboyant, he wore stilettos to school. and Dressed in women's clothing. Just days before his death, he had asked his killer, Brandon McInerey to be his valentine, as part of a game him and his "girlfriends" were playing. That very day, one of Larry friends was told to "say goodbye to Larry, because you will never see him agian." She never told Larry about the threat. Brandon was so enraged at this, he brought a handgun to school, and shot Larry twice in the head while in a computer lab at school surrounded by his classmates, he later dies from his injuries at the hospital. On the day the he died, Larry had left to make-up and stilettos at home, and dressed as any 15 year old would.

I take get pride in the fact that I was tasked with putting together an anti-bullying week for my entire High School.

Im just looking for ideas of what I can do, geared for all ages as I am traveling across my district for this week I already have a lot in mind. and, if you have witnessed, been a victim, or something similar, I'd like to know.

**PLEASE NOTE** Obviously I will not be taking credit for any of YOUR ideas. I will give credit where credit is due, but if you dont want to post Publicly on this forum, PM or email me. Or if you dont want me to use your screen name. Or if you have a personal story and dont want your real name to be known by others, I will change it for you. or sumbit your idea, not as mine. but by anonymous(being you).

Sorry for the long post. thanks for reading, if you have any questions, please feel free to PM me.

One idea, would be for everyone to dance a big conga line in the school-yard

Or a day where everyone comes in drag or bright rainbow clothing!

That would make it easier for people to bully them, Ben.

Well one thing we did for my GSA was we did a Rally.

In the rally we had club members drop ever 6 seconds, because there is a statistic that states ever 6 seconds, someone is killed because of a hate crime. Along with it we had an open board with a pen to allow anyone to write the name of someone they lost due to hate crimes (more specifically those geared towards the GLBTQ community.) It had amazing results and people were just amazed by the amount of information we provided them. Both about Mathew Shepherd, and about Lawrence King. We gave them a bunch of statistics and we acted out scenes from Angels in America (I believe thats the name, its been a while) and the other was from The Laramie Project.

Ever since that presentation my campus actually has been a lot more perceptive to treating homosexuals equally. One thing I can't stress enough is preparing your members to building a skin towards words like fag, queer, homo, etc. Something I learned was to rank the insults you heard, a 10 being the best and 1 being the worst. Playing little games like that helps. But these are just a few tips and stuff I've picked up. :)

I wish you the best of luck.
