The white dove was no match for the assassin’s deadly fire
Found itself spluttered in the gutter of every broken dream
At the children’s shoebox funeral sang the drunks’ all voices choir
It’s olive branch a tear-stained bullet in the corner of its beak

It’s a funny little thought, oh it seems so to me
All the stories in this city to make your poor heart bleed
And it’s a funny little view, oh why can’t you see
That the city ain’t as pretty as they want you to believe

The window wasn’t open but she still could feel the draft
The blue baby gave up on crying, but still their dear God laughed
Newspaper blankets told the story of a million troubled souls
Before Maria whispered the window was best left open after all

Ever thought to take the time to dare to question why
The tourists’ picture postcards are made of up of such pretty lies
Because when the heavens open those indigo winter skies
The sound of every raindrop is when another angel cries

There were ten poisoned green bottles lined up sitting on the wall
He’d only manage up to the eighth before this Humpty Dumpty would fall
Once upon a time Charlie’s nursery rhyme, now the story of his life
And not even all the king’s horses in the world could silence his screaming wife

It’s a funny little thought, oh it seems so to me
All the stories in this city to make your poor heart bleed
And it’s a funny little view, oh why can’t you see
That the city ain’t as pretty as they want you to believe

[I might edit this later with more verses, but my mind's at a blank. Same with regards to the title too actually :/ But I do like this one :P sorry for the poem spammage, I've been writing a lot lately. and sorry for them all being so depressing too, I can't write good 'happy' poems :P)
