I've been checking out other chat room software and I think I found something that might be better. Login and tell me what you think. It isn't set in stone we'll be using this. I'm still looking at IRC as an option.

http://www.virtualteen.org/forums/addonchat.php

That's the URL. Tell me what you think and if you have any problems with it.

Yeah these are pretty good. It's just that people without Java will have to download it :/ But it's a lot better.

Who doesn't have Java these days?

Plus with the old one you'd need Adobe Flash player so it's no different. This chat system is a lot less bloated.

I'm pretty sure a few people don't have Java, especially the one required for this chat. So I was merely saying people will have to download it :/

I like it, but it seems to be really compact. Other than that, it's great.

I prefer flashchat, to me the new one seems a bit tacky. Also my typing kept freezing which was pretty annoying.

MacMilker
December 6th, 2009, 04:42 PM
not really kind of boring. flash chat is way better

Patchy

I kinda like the new one. Its a stand alone window, meaning the forums are still easily viewable when watching the chat, I like the silly we sound effects and the way its incorporated into VT's menu bar.

Giles
December 6th, 2009, 05:47 PM
I much prefer the way it's integrated into the menu, how it's a separate window and the sound effects are cool.
If it could be made into full screen within the separate window then it would be great.
Overall, much better than flash chat.

The Batman
December 6th, 2009, 06:34 PM
I prefer flashchat the new one is ugly and small the sound effects are cool but flashchat is better IMO
Also flashchat isn't picky about being used only on firefox on my computer :P

The one problem I can find with this is that it's so small.

Can I also say, the Welcome kinda freaks me out, and I don't know why.

I like it.. and I'm using it on firebox Thomas O.o

Sage

Why isn't it working anymore? Invalid bytecode or something. It's not on the top navbar, either.

It was a test, based on feedback we receive we will decide if we should keep it or not.

Same here....

I can't stand flashchat...makes my computer sooooo slow that I can't really do anything else when I'm on there. This didn't slow down my computer at all, it was compact, I could do other things, looked a lot cleaner. Overall, the new one is a great improvement over the old flashchat.

Sugaree

This was definetely a great improvement over flashchat. Flashchat lagged CONSTANTLY and made my computer slow down frequently. It even crashed my browser on occassion. Addon chat was compact, it had no clutter. It was like flashchat fixed. I'd say keep it!

Guuuuys. Read the thread. It was a test, now the testing is over. Just be patient and they might bring it back if they think we liked it enough.

i didn't like it in the first place
it didn't work for me
i tried like when this thread came out and it didn't work
so if they keep the chat then expect me never to enter because it won't work

It wouldn't even load on google chrome for my computer i had to use firefox but it might fix itself if it's brought back.

Well like I said before, it froze for me several times when I was typing, which was really annoying, and I thought the whole look and feel was cheap and tacky.

One issue which no one else has mentioned, which perhaps could be improved if it was decided to make the change, was that it was less integrated with vt. In particular, I really like the ability, through right-click, to easily look up the profile page of people in flashchat. If there's someone in there I dont know I will always look them up. That wasnt possible in the demo yesterday and I think its an important feature.

Very, very solid.

When I got in it. All there was, was Tim like pretty much spamming it lol. I said hi and then all of a sudden it was all "Deschain:". But in retrospect it was very solid (David) I liked it.

We all must remember that this was a test version. Errors and bugs would have been more than expected. I'm sure they will be fixed if we get this. Let's keep our hopes up.

Not working just a blank page to me..

Kaleidoscope Eyes
December 8th, 2009, 04:36 PM
That's because the test period is over. The reactions seem pretty positive, but there are a few changes that would need to be made before it could go live for real.

We'll keep you guys posted.

The majority of replies are positive. But a number of people have reported that it either freezes or doesnt work at all.

I hope due weight will be given to the problems, just majority of happy people is a bit irrelevant if it just doesnt work for others.

tbh, I prefer this version. I hated Flash, it was sooooo slow. or not working at all.
I like this chat its compact, and lets me do other stuff, something that flash never did.

why?

Maverick
December 23rd, 2009, 07:41 PM
I updated flash chat to the newest version (version 6) and immediately it caused performance issues. The site started to slow down significantly. So for the time being I have it turned off. I'm not too keen on trying to fix it right now because if it leads to problems I don't to open up a can of worms with it. I don't want something to go wrong with it being Christmas eve tomorrow. I'd rather wait until after the holiday to try and figure out what the problem is.

thank you. I hope its not to difficult to fix. Its my favorite part
