Hi, yes I know, I'm a guy. But this is about my girlfriend. every month she has cramps that can double her over in pain. and every year, she has particularly painful ones that are even worse.Taking motrin helps her, but her tolerance for it is going up and she's now taking 400 mg of it every 5 hrs or so. She says that if she takes any more it makes her sick. I don't think it's healthy for her to keep taking 400 mg, but I'm not saying anything because it's the only thing that makes her feel better. :( I love her so much. It makes me hurt to see her go through this. I was hoping that you guys could share any tips to help alleviate the pain of her cramps.

I've gone through painful cramps for my past two periods, and my mom always suggests that it's the foods that I eat, and the lack of exercise.

I'd suggest if she knows when her period is coming for her to take the motrin a day before the period comes, just to lessen the pain and also if it comes to it, but a hot-wet towel over her stomach and press down. It will bring some relief but it will take a while. (Wet the towel, put it in the microwave for about 30 seconds + or until it's hot and place it over her stomach. If it's veryy hot, place an article of clothing on her stomach and then the towel.)

Check out the below for some tips (If their that painful, she should really talk to her doctor otherwise):

Happens to me too :\
I find that hot packs/water bottles help and exercise, I walked up and down my stairs for an hour to make the pain go away. she should probably also see a doctor about it because they can suggest other remedies and prescribe stronger medications if thats what she needs. Hope she feels better :)

this is natural. when this happens to me i would use one of those water thingies with warm water and just relax. it helps alot. still hurts alittle but it helps.

I think she should see her dr about it if they are that bad... The dr can help her figure out if theres anything wrong or if everything is normal and thats just what she goes through... The other thing that might work is getting her put on birth control. im not a dr so dont quote me on anything but 1 of my friends was put on it bc she had bad cramps too.

the thing that causes cramps during her period is layers of muscle being removed with the lining of the uterus. her diet can be a factor in why its happening but im not familiar with what foods do what. if the pain is severe she should see a doctor right away. if she has bright red blood in her menses that confirms that there is large amounts of muscle being torn off with the lining and she should see a doctor.

what helps me is exericise. My cramps are pretty bad but after I ride horses or just walk around for a while it helps.
