"It is believed the man wanted to give her the disease so she would start having sex with him again", New Zealand's Sunday Star-Times said.

Wow...that's sad. I would say it's sick but it seems like he just wanted to get his wife back and he was deseperate to do so. It is selfish though because he completely jeopardized her life.
No, actually it is sick because of the disease itself and what's shes going to have to go through now that she's HIV positive, so just disregard that second sentence.

He deserves some sort of jail time for that. Dickhead.

I think it was meant as manslaughter because basically he's given her a death sentence.

AIDS is no longer a death sentence, at least not in the sense that you know you will die directly of AIDS-related causes with certainty. If anything, they'd have to wait until the woman actually died to charge him with manslaughter, imo.

yeah, it is. it's still 100% fatal.

Imo its still a death sentence tbh.

His solution: infecting her.
The BETTER solution: condoms.
Jeez.

Well if you think AIDS is a death sentence - which, with modern treatments, is not necessarily true, because while one cannot cure AIDS it is a manageable chronic disease - then the woman still has to die before charging the man with manslaughter.

I'm disgusted. That is not a husband, that's a fucking man whore.
Sex is not worth giving someone you love a deadly disease. She was fine with not being able to have sex, so why cant he, especially when he's the reason.

I think the wife is a bitch for not letting him fuck her in the first place. But it seems that they didn't really love each other.
Cute story though. Romantic, the guy trying to keep them together. THanks for posting. :)

What the fuck? Pardon my language, but a serious relationship is more than just sex. You can love someone, and never have sex, EVER!

I 100% agree with Connor.
Besides they already have kids! so unless it was artificial insemination, they had to have sex. and if you read the article, it said the wife and children tested negative so the bastard must've fucked someone else to contract the damn disease.
if you are being serious with your post Grinchilla, you need some serious help.

That's manslaughterShe hasn't died so no it isn't.
I think it was meant as manslaughter because basically he's given her a death sentence.HIV isn't a death sentence anymore as it is perfectly manageable and the certainty of getting AIDs has decreased because of that.
The BETTER solution: condoms.Exactly, you'd have thought the doctor who diagnosed him and tested her would have told them that.

AIDs is different and can be prevented to a lesser or greater degree thanks to ARVs.

Sex does not equal love. You can have a romantic, loving relationship without having sex.

HIV can be passed on through sharing needles with a person who is HIV positive so he could have been unfortunate enough to get a piercing or tattoo in an unhygienic place.
It is also transmitted through the blood of a HIV positive person coming into contact with an open wound of someone without the virus.
Using someone else's razor or toothbrush are even deemed to be risk factors as they can both cause bleeding.
He could have been in the wrong place at the wrong time and caught it that way as opposed to cheating on her.

Yet
and yes it is theres precedence for it in the courts
a man had unprotected sex with multiple partners knowing he was HIV+
he was charged with manslaughter
it stuck

In which jurisdiction, and source please. I've heard of people being charged with and convicted of attempted manslaughter, but not manslaughter.

I see and I concede.
EDIT

This one is an interesting read as it highlights how some people are trying to get the laws changed so that someone who does knowingly infect their partner, or at least put them at very high risk of getting infected, with HIV are charged with a crime against health

I still don't see any convictions for manslaughter without the deaths of at least one of the infected partners. There's the case of first degree murder charges in that one Canadian case, but that's because any death resulting from sexual assault - and consensual sex without HIV disclosure is considered aggravated sexual assault in Canada - is automatically first degree murder under Canadian law.
Still, the original point which we were discussing was whether the man could be charged with manslaughter prior to any deaths, the answer to which would appear to be: no.

At the moment, she isn't dead and so it wouldn't be manslaughter. You are correct there.
I was conceding on the point of his actions making him a criminal.
He can be convicted of other crimes due to his knowingly infecting her with HIV - it would apparently be classed as different things in different countries. E.g. In the UK, he'd likely be charged with grievous bodily harm.

Jeez.
Condoms can rip or fail in other ways. Plus wouldn't you be scared having sex knowing that the man you're sleeping with could infect you with something potentially deadly?

Pretty sure you'd have a very different tone if that happened to you.
