Signature image restrictions

Sort of carrying on from the last thread that got locked, and not wishing to create any arguments here.. I propose that we have limits on images in signatures. I think there's a couple of limitations that need applying. Firstly, a limit on the number or images in a sig, maybe two or three at the most? Secondly a restriction on the resolution of images, then finally a restriction on the file size of the image.

Some of you may think I'm being picky here, but I have my reasons for this. Most importantly.. I'm sure a lot of you are on super fast internet connections with a huge, or if not unlimited amount of bandwidth, however I'm not. I'm on mobile broadband which is much slower and has a monthly cap of 5gb. So it's a waste of my bandwidth, and really why the hell do you need images so big in your sig?

I think that images should be limited to a small banner. There is just no need for lots of images in a sig, that's not what your sig is for.

I really don't see any use in having more than 2 images in a sig. It's a bitch looking at this site from a mobile browser or dial up internet. So I pretty much agree with you all the way.

This doesn't really apply to me as I have none in my signature anyway, (although I would have the one, if I could. which I can't)
But I don't really see the problem, obviously because of your bandwidth issues there is for you. I don't mind large images, the only ones that do annoy me are the ones that move; they are generally so irritating, they just slow down the entire thread where that person has posted.

I'm a visual kind of person so I made some examples. What kind of banner size do you feel should be the maximum?

I agree with Heather that the maximum amount should be 1.

300 x 100 definitely. Or you could have two but they couldn't add up to more than 300 x 100. It's rather pointless to have more than one or two anyway. I like a tidy text sig more than a big shouty in your face image.

I think the 500 X 150 is big enough that way it won't really limit them to much. Also I like 2 because it's not too limiting and if they want like a small badge and a sig pic they can have it.

I think 750x125 would be better, the height is what annoys me the most (Your sig should NEVER be taller than your mini profile to the left of your post.... NEVER.).
I don't exactly care how many images you have in your sig, or how much text you have in your sig, as long as it isn't any taller than 125-150 px, that should be fine.

In fact, a while ago, I got so pissed off at the large images in the sigs here, that I edited (http://www.virtualteen.org/forums/profile.php?do=editoptions) the maximum size an image can get (Before it gets resized).

Ant I think 400x125 is best. Although at that size it should be limited to one image.

Either the first or the second is fine by me. Definitely no bigger, though; that 500x150 just seems excessive.

Or can we be sure that this only includes things in the image tags? I know you can't have more than 10 images in one post, and at times when I've posted ten pics in the photo album I've had to take out smilies so they'd fit because the smiley counted as an image. I would be sad if I couldn't fit my two smilies in my sig. xD

I'll make sure the permissions will allow at least 2 smilies. I completely forgot that the system counts smilies and images alike so I'll make sure that is taken into account.
