Hello, all! I'm downloading the Slackware 10.2 ISO images right now and since Slackware has such a notoriously bad package manager (no dependencies!?) I'll be in need of a good package manager that compiles everything from source like Gentoo's BSD style Portage system. I know there's slapt-get but that too Debianesque for me and I can't stand Debian. Does anyone know how to get Portage (or something similar) to work on Slackware?
Thanks, Felix.

I've never used Slackware, or tried this, but I did some looking around and found something that's supposed to be a port of Gentoo's Portage for Slackware. I can't tell you how good it works, or even if it works, as I haven't tried it. But, here you go:

Oh, there's a post about it here: http://www.linuxforums.org/forum/misc/8096-emerge-slackware-users.html
Which looks like it has a script that will install it for you.
Debian's apt-get is fun though :) I had Kororaa installed a little while back (Based on Gentoo) and used the Emerge utility. It was okay, but it took forever to update the repository. I managed to find a Gtk frontend for emerge though, so at least I didn't have to mess with Command line if I didn't want to.
I like the new Autopackage thing though. The only bad thing I've seen about it is that not too many programs are being packaged that way yet.

Yay! It worked! Thanks, man. I attempted to install Kororaa but it wouldn't boot. Probably something to do with my Celeron. It's pretty innovative to have Xgl in a LiveCD.

Good to hear it worked.
Should work with a Celeron just fine. Supposedly anything that has SSE, which a Celeron would.
It has more to do with the Video card.
I had issues getting it to boot for a while. I'm not sure why. But, it wouldn't boot on my Desktop with an X800 video card. It would with a Radeon 9600 in my Laptop though.
I have XGL working on Ubuntu now, so I don't need Kororaa. Sure I had it set up to I could install programs fairly easily, but I still like Debian's package manager better. :)

I have a Celeron D and I was trying it with an nVidia GeForce FX 5500 but I have a million graphics cards with which I would try it. I also have a Radeon 9600 and another nVidia card. No, I'm not loaded but at my local computer fair they sell good cards for like £15.
