Dammit there have been so many threads on this. I completely agree with you man, I love all the old punk bands you mentioned first. However you mentioned a load of pop-punk, emo whatever the fuck you want to call them bands after. These are obviously not punk and nothing like it and not many of those bands claim to be Punk at all. Although a variation of punk is still going on today and its pretty fucking good.
Punk Rock:
Bad Religion
Anti-Flag
Pennywise
Guttermouth
4ft Fingers
AFI (early)
The Unseen
etc etc..
But yeah Punk in itself is dead, Kolte you might not like it but lots of us do, why don't you go rant on about Maynard or something?

Dude you didn't read the post, the ones which you are classing as "emo" he has said are not punk. However if you think any of the bands he put in the first list are emo, then you need to go be educated.

OK Darby its quite obvious you know nothing.
The Misfits are quite gothic yes, but goth isn't a type of music, it is not a genre. Punk is, and thats what they are.
The Deak Kennedys not punk?! What the fuck are you on!
You think I don't like punk?
Cock Sparrer
Anti-Nowhere League
UK Subs
Black Flag
Angelic Upstarts
Cockney Rejects
Minor Threat.
Those are just some of the punk bands I like. Know what your talking about before you start chatting shit.

Darby_Crash

Its not just a Genre, Punk is a lifestyle(I couldnt think of the word), Like Anarchy and not careing what people were thinking of you, And I think Dead Kennedy's are little pussies

No its not just a genre, but it is that aswell. See I fucking despise this, you come over with your "IM MORE PUNK THAN YOU" bullshit, I couldn't care less. You fuckers think your hardcore.
Why the fuck did you start talking about lifestyle, I name a few bands I like because you think I don't listen to punk. You suddenly realise you are wrong again and blurt out some pointless shit.
The Dead Kennedys little pussies? You are one stupid bastard aren't you.

I hate when people get so arrogant with music.
I myself usually don't, I just get really into a particular band, and then just ask other poeple to listen to it.
to spread the love.
I don't pledge allengence to a particular genre.
I listen to all music, and then listen to the ones that I really like.
when you say, only punk, then your lying to yourself.
because punk is not the only good music.
be more open minded with music.
becasue theres so much.
and its just.........how you say.........totally awsome.
do I like punk at all?
no, but thats not for ANY reason execpt I don't like the sound of punk.
nothing wrong with that eh?
but anyway's.
you cant tell people what they are, or like or don't like.
you don't know.
only they know truly.

Im just trying to say Punk is dead and emo isnt punk

Ravenous
May 11th, 2006, 09:36 AM
I know thats what you said at the beginning. And how many times do I have to say I fucking agreed with you. You obviouly do care if I like it or not because you went through all that to try and prove I didn't, you failed of course. Once again you completely contradict yourself,
you said earlier punk is a lifestyle, now your saying because theres no music there is no punks around. Some punk bands still play shows, you go there and you see real punks. But you know what? I couldn't give a shit what you think, I know that I am right and you are wrong.
Punk is dead and emo isn't punk, well done... Quick aren't we?
I love how so many people feel the need to rant about a point even when no one is actually disagreeing with it.

now now, theres no reason to say all those harsh words.
I don't think anyone is arguing your point.
at all.
even in the slightest.
so whats the trip?

Bobby
May 11th, 2006, 04:32 PM
He wants to argue something, but he stands no chance. Punk is dead I don't care who you are. Most people here aren't real punk.

And most people don't claim to be either.
I'm not the one argueing it you are basing this on one simple point "Punk is Dead" Which I agreed with! Jeez you've lost let it go.

I'm pretty thrilled about punk finally dying out. It's now become emo, meaningless whining, watered down music. Now according to Jimmy Page... rap should die out next year...

Bobby

I doubt rap will die out. If so it won't be next year.

It's odd you keep saying "Punk is dead", without having the band who coined that phrase on your list...but listing the Exploited, who responded to "Punk is dead" with "Punk's Not Dead".

Anyway, punk is still alive, in my opinion. Maybe you live in a little town and don't notice, but even small cities seem to have fairly active scenes. I guess some argue it's dead because it's become trendy (though it was shortly after it started, as well), but I say as long as there are kids out there playing music for fun or to spread a message, writing zines, booking shows, or running a distro/record label then it lives.

But that stuff isn't punk at all though is it, thats not what punk has become, its a cheep copy.
Very few punks bands are still touring today, and even less still write records. However yes there is still punk scenes around in many citys. For the most part though, Punk is dead.

I'm not saying this with an "omgz i know more about punx oi oi oi im better" attitude, but lots of bands still tour and release records. Just look around some more. These aren't just local bands, either. There are current bands who are just as popular among punks as some of the classics.

If you meant that most of the older bands aren't, then a good amount of them still are, as well (considering most are at least in their 40's). Some played at the British Invasion 2k6 tour a few months ago, and a couple at the East Coast Oi Fest. I think a few still play regularly in Britain.

Ravenous
May 15th, 2006, 01:26 PM
Well I know many still do, but the scene is dying..
There are very few if any new punk bands forming and the punk band that still exist are getting old and wont be able to tour and record for that much longer. So maybe not dead, but punk is dying.

Live for Nothing
May 15th, 2006, 01:57 PM
I don't know. I've noticed a lot of new punk bands recently. More than I have before. You just have to really get into punk to find them. You have to be active, meet people, read zines, and you'll find new bands all of the time. It may look like it's dying to outsiders, but to anyone involved, it's easy to see it's growing, or at least not going anywhere anytime soon.

anyway..

all the punk bands now are more punk rock really, its not dying out i dont think, just changing, nothing ever stays the same
