The heartless thug who brutally robbed three Queens women -- one of them 101 years old -- will die in prison after a furious judge yesterday sentenced him to 75 years.
"That comes out to about a year for every dollar you took from those people," Queens Supreme Court Justice Gregory Lasak told Jack Rhodes, 47, who netted just $78 and two rings from the unspeakable crimes.
"Your actions . . . were reprehensible," Lasak said. "It shocks the senses. I've never seen anything like it."
Rhodes fractured four bones in centenarian Rose Morat's face when he robbed her in the lobby of her Jamaica Estates apartment building in March 2007, punching her and dropping her to the floor from her walker.

75 years for stealing $78, how is that just or proportionate. So the criminal is a hearless bastard, but 75 years is a stupid sentence for this.

Yep....This is possibly one of the most excessive sentences I've ever seen...quite stupid. Being a heartless bastard isn't crime, therefore it's not punishable. They need to punish him for his crime, robbery in the first degree, which is a class B felony in New York. A class B felony should result in 1 to 20 years imprisonment and about $15,000 worth of fines...This is DEFINITELY excessive.

What a big man; stealing from old women. Yeah, that'll get you your balls back. Even though the sentence is excessive, I still think that he's getting what he deserves.

Lets face it, you really want to string him up right ?

This makes me laugh...Murders get the death penalty and that is excessive. Some thug robs an old lady and gets life, but that's not excessive? Makes no sense.

Well, what he did was pretty much a sign of how weak he was. Robbing someone older is easy because they can't defend themselves. I'd give him a few good kicks myself, but I wouldn't go to the excess of giving him almost 80 years in jail. And Jared is right. Murders get the death penalty and that's excessive, but something like this happens, the guy gets 75 years in jail, and that isn't excessive? Gotta love the judicial system in this country.

Sorry Matt, but you have me completely confused. In one moment you are saying the sentence is excessive, and in the next that he's getting what he deserves. How can both of those apply?

Let me explain: I believe the sentence is excessive because it's completely insane. He could have gotten a few months in jail, but gets life. Secondly, he deserves to be in jail, but he doesn't deserve the sentence.

OK, then we agree.

Yes, it's cruel and cowardly that he stole from elderly women, but theft is theft no matter who you steal from, so I think this was by all means excessive, if not draconian.

seriously, a good few years in jail and a good kick up the ass would have suited this guy, but 75 years??!?!!?!??!???!!?!?!?!?
