Hello,

The last time I was here I asked for advice about being a late bloomer and I was worried about not getting my period. I got it seven months after I turned fourteen after the nurses gave me another year to check it out. Thanks for all the advice.

But I need help now.

When I was almost twelve I found a lump in my right breast and was scared of breast cancer, so I showed my mum and she told me she thought I was developing. After a while I got one in my left breast. They were tender and painful, but later I found out about breast buds and so forth so I stopped worrying about them.

The thing is, even after I've had some sort of growth spurt and I've had my period for approximately six months, the lumps are still there. They've been there for the past three years and I have thought nothing of them. My breasts still hurt when I roll over, and I can kind of move the lumps around, and they seem to get bigger just before my period (based on the little I have had), and sometimes I think that they are shrinking (like today) but they come back. They never disappear. Additionally, my breasts don't grow. At least, not noticeably. They're at the pointy stage and whatever it's called.

I know that breast cancer is almost unheard of in teenagers and especially in both breasts but surely breast buds don't last for so long! My mother has probably forgotten about me telling her about them, and since I've been battling with somewhat hypochondriatic tendencies I don't want to be more of a burden to my parents. She doesn't know they're still there, and I've been contemplating telling her, but somehow I don't want to. Recently I've also been experiencing chest pains (mild, intermittent, either in left or right breast) and have been freaking out about them because I worry about heart attacks and so forth, but I guess it's... development? I don't know.

So in short: I've had one lump in each breast for three years and they won't go away. HELP.

EDIT: Some questions on Yahoo Answers indicate that lumps in both breasts since thelarche (or something like that) are usually just normal and are just breast tissue, like here (http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20090528215325AAZyeM2) and here (http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20091021054158AAAdKhD). What do you think of that?

They could just be calsium deposits.
I have the same problem, a few years ago I noticed I had a lump in my breast (breast cancer runs in my family, my grandma had it 4 times and my mom twice). So i asked my mom about it, and I went to the doctor and they did all kinds of tests, and it was only calcium. I wouldn't be too worried.

Thanks so much! Would calcium deposits last for a while? And would they hurt?

haha, your very welcome. I've had mine for quite a few years now, so i'm guessing so.
And yes, I know for me, they often hurt.

Thanks again ^^
But could there be other causes for it?

I had that same thing when I was younger. I don't recall how long I had them, but it's not necessarily bad if they last longer for you. How old are you? You could still very well be developing.

If it hurts, it isn't cancer. That's the general rule when checking for lumps.

Your breasts have mammary glands underneath the fatty tissue (breasts are mostly composed of fat, that's why the skinnier girls tend to have smaller ones), which is what produces milk. These can be tender, especially when you're on your period or ovulating, and also particularly while you're developing and your hormones are still regulating themselves. You can feel them with your hands when checking for lumps, and they're probably going to be more noticeable during your period/when you're ovulating but not necessarily.

That's what I would assume this is. Either mammary glands or otherwise normal breast tissue. It'll probably hurt less when you get closer to ending puberty, but you may still have tenderness around your period as an adult. Some women do, some don't.

Fifteen. I am most certainly still developing. And I'm pitifully skinny so I guess that adds to it as well.

Thanks so much... this really makes me feel better ^^
