Why do members on this site have to be 13-19 to register.

By 13 a lot of people are into puberty... I started at 11... My guess is for 19 they don't want any middle aged old men.

well because this place is called Virtual Teen. Teen being the operative word!:P

since this is a place for teens, you must be a teen to register!:D

fucking puberty.
this site has one form on puberty and everyone thinks thats what its about.
this site is about mental illness and being a teenager.
and alex allready said about the age thing.
just thought I would clear that up.

Most people think it is all about puberty b/c 99% of the people that rejester, do it for the puberty part, course if they every actly want to have real conversation other than "Is my penis too small" they move to other parts of the form.

Ok guys, getting off topic here... Furthermore, I think the topic question has already been answered. VirtualTeen is a place for teenagers... not preteens, nor middle-aged-folk. There are few, extreme exceptions (no exceptions for underaged members though). If a member registered while they were in between the ages of 13 and 19, then they are welcome to stay on this forum indefinitely (unless banned/removed for reason(s) beyond age restriction).

Also, it is illegal for individuals under the age of 13 to participate in an open forum where the posts are not moderated beforehand without proper consent. COPPA at work for you. VT does not offer parents the opportunity to present their consent, thereby *supposedly* keeping out underage members. Members can, however lie about their age, unfortunately, as there is no way to verify it. They seem to, for some reason, believe that we will not enforce that law, so they willingly post their age without thinking about it, usually in a survey. We will then take the proper action, usually banning the account.

Not that I have any objections for it being for people aged 13+ I just want to point out that there are alot of loopholes in the COPPA and, as a rule I obkect to it. I mena, when I was eleven I was on Usenet and bahaved in an appropriate mannor. However looking at the eleven year olds at my school (it's 11-18 ) I do have my doubts... But, anyway, yeah. For this particular forum a 13+ rule is highly appropriate.

As I undertand COPPA, we don't have to comply cause we are a nonprofit site. I just can't find anyway to prove it. If I could prove it I would let kids join when they hit puberty.
