A whisper in the woods was heard
At just past three in the morning.

The boy walked toward the woodwork
Not fearing for his safety
Or shivering as the snow flakes descended
Peacefully, with malicious stares
Toward the now infertile ground.

He stood there with eyes open,
A thought caught between his left
And right ear, somewhere in between
Where all thoughts lie, awaken
And eventually, pass on,
Not die, but pass on.

He listened to the sound of the sugarplum fairies
And danced, tapping his foot lightly on the white-green ground,
To the sound of the crows caw-cawing
In the midst of a dark winter morning.

He could not find the origin of the whisper,
But he listened, and he danced
And the crows flew by, one by one,
Never ceasing,
As the snow flakes fell,
Peacefully, with malicious stares,
Onto the now infertile ground...

The ground where the boy would find,
Looking hard enough
A concrete idea
That would stay locked
In his grin
And would display itself
In the form of a smile
From ear--to ear.
