Okay, so dilemma here.
I've got some cash, and I'm looking to buy a new console. I've had a PS2 and before that a Playstation forever so I'm right now leaning towards a PS3. The thing is, it's $100 more. I trust Sony more than Microsoft, have had better experiences with their products and costumer service, but money's always a factor. Now I have about $300 dollars worth of PS2 stuff, so I'll probably sell that so I can buy a few games and accessories and such.
But; I need your opinion on this. Is it worth the free online and blu-ray and all that. I have a big 1080p tv and such so I could take full advantage, but what should I do?!?!?! PS3 or Xbox 360, or something else?
Help.

Really. I'd check out what games you want. As XBox tends to have the good ones. I have a PS3. I've had it for a year, and not one problem. No disk etching or freezing. It's pretty reliable. Can't say that about my 360.
*Looks at closet of technical difficulties*

I'm not so much into like Halo and such, I'd probably buy stuff like Gran Tourismo 5, NBA 2K10, Madden, sports games, and maybe CODMW2, and some action shooters. I'm more about realism though.

Will, I'd go for the PS3 if I were you. The 360's really are more like $300 so you are in the exact same price point. The PS3 has much more potential in the future than the 360 because of the technology that was built into it. The 360 is an aging system that will be replaced within a year or sometime around there. When you think about it, you really aren't paying the $300 for a 360 that's on the price tag. You are going to pay $50 a year just for the xbox live membership which is now only marginally better than the Playstation online not to mention the laughable failuire rates of hardware in the 360 and the lack of a blu-ray player. All in all, you're so much better-off with the PS3 in the long run.

I have a 360 and I love it, however I'd possibly pick a PS3 above it. One major thing is that PS3's have blu-ray which equals amazing. The free online play is also great. The only setback I can find is that (at least in my area) almost everyone has a 360, so you're limited if you want to play with friends (unless they have a PS3 as well).

I have a 360 and it rocks though I hear the PS# live sucks. The gaming graphics are just as good for the PS# and 360.

The 360 has a lot more games. And better ones in my opinion. I would go with the 360. I love mine. :3

I used to feel the same as you about Sony, they seemed to be the best an as if they always would be as a kid. Personally I prefer the 360.

Definitely go for the PS3. It has MotorStorm, Gran Turismo, and Little Big Planet, which people say is great. Personally I don't see much of a difference between PSN and Live, and PSN is free. I've had a PS3 since November 2007, and the only problem was that it refused to play BluRays, but they replaced that and I had it back within 2 weeks. Considering you said you don't like Halo, but do wan Gran Turismo 5 (release March 2010, the GT Prologue has been out for a few years now), PS3 is the better choice.

Same here i would have got a PS3 but no one had it so i got a 360. Make sure you consider this, ask your friends and other people you know if they got a PS3 or a 360 and see who has what and decide if you want to play with them then pick what you want.
Yes you have to pay for Xbox Live but you pay $50 and you won't pay for it for another year.

No, they're not.
Unless you're talking about the Halo movie being available in Blu-Ray, then yes, the Halo movie will be playable on the PS3.

Since he's made his decision, I would like to say Xbox Live is way better than PSN. Microsoft may be jackasses, but they actually use the money that you pay on Xbox live for Xbox Live. I'd rather pay $50 once a year and get bennefits because my money is going to use, than free online play that has less things to do.
I'm not some fanboy that loves Microsoft, I kinda am pissed off at Microsoft, to be honest, but anyway, I want a PS3 just to have one so I can play Rachet and Clank because Rachert and Clank equals win.

I know Live is better. You get what you pay for. All I'm saying is that I see no problems with it, and I have never had any problems with PSN.
And Will, hope you have fun with the PS3! If you want to add me on PSN, just PM me :)

I have PS3 and it rocks...been playing Assassins Creed. I don't play online much but I use my computer when I want to play online games like Left 4 Dead. I want to get Assassins Creed 2 but dont have the cash at the moment. Hopefully parents will get it for Christmas, though doubt it, they don't mind me using my own money to buy violent games, but they'll never do it for me.

It's more of your personal preference...
If you sci-fi-ish games, you'd probally get a 360 because they are more Sci-Fi games..
If you like action-adventure games more, you'd get a PS3 since it has more. That's how I judge, so please, let's not start a console war...

Not true. I see no Halo games planned for PS3. Halo Reach, however is planned for the 360.
Anyways, I don't own a PS3 but I do own a Xbox 360 and I love it. We've only had to change out the consoles once because my first 360 was Modded to play copied games by it's previous owner. IMO it gets fantastic exclusives and a whole crapload of exclusive DLC, and It has a fantastic online. I'd go for the 360. If your looking for something to play high quality movies from Blockbuster and such I'd go for the PS3, but you can also rent HD movies from XBL.

Not as far as I'm aware.
Paying £40 a year for online play is nothing, you could get that for free every year anyway.(Christmas/birthday. Regardless of age)
i much prefer xbox 360's mainly because everyone I know has one, see what your friends have got. And get that.
After all, thats what gaming consoles are for; entertainment. You can be much more entertained with your friends.

I have a 360 and I'm happy, but I like some aspects on PS3, like the internal browser, and free online, I'd still be happy if I had a PS3 instead of a 360.

the exclusive gaming is not really a good point for 360, i played halo and thought the graphics where terrible and the actual story was just like a bad sci-fi movie. played Gears of War and thought army of two was 10 times better. i also am not likin the controller of Xbox, it's just too big and clumpy so you can't really grip it without getting sore hands unlike the duelshock series.
so those are a few reasons that i think that xbox is pretty rubbish

I'd rather not post in this thread, but, no-ones hand's gets sore from the 36's controler. Nor is it big and clumpy. I prefer it over any Playstation controller because of the triggers.

"no ones hands get sore from gripping the controller and it isn't big and clumpy"
ok so just because you disagree and hasn't affected you this is just stupid then? even friends of mine who completly love xbox will even agree that yes it is to big to grip and if you do you will get a hand cramp. to use it you have to kind of hold it loosly in your hand when i've used it.

In case you guys haven't figured it out he's already got the PS3 which is probably what i would have chosen. Anyways Jake I agree with you on the controller thing. The old xbox controllers were huge but the 360's are good.

Well, no one I know has ever complained about the controller.
I mean, yeah it will hurt your hands if you like grip it with all your strength, but if you do that.. you are just.. strange..

I've got both and I would say Xbox 360 all the way.
If your only going to play off line then PS3 is probably the better choice, Although I believe some of the Xbox exclusive game are better than PS3 exclusive, plus Xbox is getting metal gear solid: rising, so that one less for the PS3
If your going to play online then Xbox 360 wins everytime, you may have to pay £40 a year but it is definatly worth it. PS3 online is just so unreliable, and although Xbox may have its problems, they are sorted pretty quick.
