View Full Version : Is this the wrong mindset?

I'm an American sophomore in high school. I've always had the good grades I guess, basically all A's but maybe a B once in a while. But this year I'm getting not so good grades in English II (speech), TAG (talented and gifted), and PE. My mentality is that I can't be perfect at everything, though I should try my best still.

Usually I get an A in PE because my old teacher cared about my GPA; He would even fail other people doing ten times better than me in class. This year I have a new teacher, and apparently I'm not being aggressive when we play games. I'm very shy. Which doesn't help in speech class either. On top of it I can't write at all... the teacher grades on quality, just not what's required. I'm failing TAG because even though I'm in no after school activities, I don't have time for it. I have ADD or something... it takes me hours to do one homework assignment. I only go to sleep every other day.

I haven't decided on going to college yet... I love monotonous jobs and hate thinking that I can just get over with for the day than go play. I also hate money so I don't see the point of going. but idk yet.

Thanks, all.

Of course you should always try your best, but sometimes you're still going to have trouble.

High school is when a lot of kids who are used to getting good grades start to have a tougher time. This is when you really do have to study for some courses, because being in class every day isn't enough to help you remember everything you need for the tests. If you like monotonous jobs, though, studying should be easy for you. xP

In P.E., are you failing, or just not getting as high of a grade as you'd like? Mostly in P.E. you just have to show up, wear your uniform, and try your best. Your teacher wants you to be a little more aggressive so put some effort into that. Like, don't just stand off to the side during basketball and hope no one passes the ball to you. Try to get involved a bit, it'll get easier as you go. All the teacher needs to see is that you're making an effort to work on it, and that should help.

If you're having trouble focusing on your homework, there are some things you can do to try and help with that. Make sure you eat breakfast, and eat something decent for lunch. It actually is helpful to have some fuel in you, or your brain doesn't function as well. Have an after-school snack, some fruit or crackers and peanut butter or something. And if you hit a spot where you just cannot focus, put the assignment aside and either work on something for another class or just take a short break. When you focus on the same thing for too long, it can get harder to make sense of it. It's sort of like when you say the same word over and over, and it doesn't even sound like a word anymore. If you stop repeating that word, later you can come back to it and it sounds normal again. The same concept applies to homework, oddly enough.
There are times when you need to just buckle down and get it done, and times where you need to take a break because you're burning out and not doing very good work. You just have to learn which is which.

And get some sleep! Not sleeping enough is only going to make it harder for you to concentrate, and harder for you to retain the stuff you're learning in class. Plus, you won't have the energy you need to be more aggressive in P.E. xP If you are literally staying up most of the night and working the whole time, something is wrong and you need to talk to a counselor about changing your classes. There's no shame in quitting TAG, especially if it's a choice between that or sleep.

the p.e is the part my teacher yells at me for, but the thing is if u dont pass the mile u lose ALL ur points for that day so yeah lol xD

but in p.e i jus fake it and make it "look like im productive" i already told him i was lazy but i'd try ever since then ive gotten from a d to an a

win win?

and miss Kaleidoscope eyes is correct. whenever u get in from school have a descent meal or some type of snack even if ur not hungry and in the event that you jus dont want to eat and you only wanna do homework

try chewing gum it works wonders ^^
