I’m doing a report about school violence and events such as Columbine High School, when two teenagers went to school with a gun and killed their fellow students. I have a survey that I assembled as well as just general curiosity on views on such an event.

I personally view such shooters as troubled teenagers who’s teenage angst and feelings of isolation has pushed them to their breaking point. Much similarly to someone who commits suicide, statistics have actually shown that most teenage shooters also intend on killing themselves afterwards.

Basically I was wondering what you think. Can you see why someone might get to such a point that this seems like the answer? If your friend was going to commit such an act, would you know about it? Why do you think somebody might do something like this?

Erik and Dylan (the shooters in Columbine) did not go on their rampage because they were bullied, which most kids seem to think is the cause. They mainly wanted revenge against the police. They had imagined a large firefight that would kill many officers and I think they also planned to use bombs which would go off when police entered the school. They were pissed off social outcasts with huge tempers. They were arrested and charged with theft, criminal mischief, and criminal trespassing...there were pissed off about it and were seeking revenge. They didn't have specific targets...they would have killed anyone.

Yes, i could see many reasons someone would want to. But no, i'm sure the person that wanted to do a shooting wouldn't tell friends, they don't want anyone inturrupting what their focus is on. Emotional reasons i'm sure, such as from something traummatic or bullying as an example. Some might want to be heard as some type of messege for people not being their, in the ways, some just are filled with anger and don't know how to take it out.

That's not entirely true I did a paper on teenage violence and researched them a lot and the truth is they wanted to kill as many people inside of that school as possible, they had bombs set up to go off in the cafeteria and when students that didn't get blown up ran out they would start shooting them one by one taking them out however the bombs didn't go off so they went in shooting.

I don't agree with that way of dealing with things but I can see how poeple get that way. Bullies, the pressure of schoolwork, growing up, hormones, love, in some cases a denial of homosexuality, this can all build up to something bad, all it takes is for the wrong person to get the wrong thought.

I went to a rough state school in a deprived area where physical violence was the normal response for any teasing or bullying, and even now I find it hard to not instinctively resort to giving someone a whack if they are really pissing me off.

It's a coping thing.

In this reports are you focussing only on acts of violence which get kids killed? Or in general?

One time at my old school there was a nasty fight in the girls changing room, gang of girls basically lynching a girl who had tried to stand up to them and their incessant bullying, and she was sent to hospital with a fractured skull.

it kinda just happens ...

Everyone wants to be accepted. Everyone wants to be happy. In certain cases, bullying plays a huge part, while in others, it doesn't in the slightest. Most of the time, the mental and emotional state are the cause of such situations.
