All ye in favour of the ability to have a private instant message session with somebody in the chat room say aye!

Personally, I think the whole 'anybody can come in and watch your convo' thing is a little too public and a private way of chatting without giving away personal info would be nice. Having entire private conversations on pm is far to fiddly, time consuming and fills up your VT inbox!

Theres MSN/instant messaging.

VT stopped private chatting in flash chat because it was misused, people abused it so the site lost it.

Private messages are in no means private as well. If an admin thinks your are misusing the PM system he has the right to check PM's

We had private messaging in flashchat in the past but we removed it, as Patchy said, because it was abused way too much. There was actually a recent discussion on this here (http://www.virtualteen.org/forums/showthread.php?t=59429).

Just PM people or take it to MSN/AIM/whatever.

The only reason in-site chat would be good is that i use gmail and most others use msn. It is rare that somebody else uses the same IM as me.

That's why I use Pidgin- you can add Google Talk, MSN, Aim, Yahoo, and a bunch of other ones I haven't even heard of. You can even add MYSPACE IM. lolllllllll

Then why not get that same IM? it's free and if you don't want to download it then use meebo.

Why would you need to speak to someone in privacy anyway, the flashbox usually has no more than a few people at a time.
