Because of South park. xD

Being ginger, myself, I don't really take offense. I can take a joke, and I can recognize the sarcasm which usually accompanies the ginger jokes I hear. I have one friend in particular who is always ready to blame my failures on my gingerism (I'm pretty sure he knows who he is xP), but it's not like it bothers me. People aren't honestly that violently opposed to ginger kids; at least I've never met anyone who is. It's just a pop culture thing, and it's intended as a joke.

Being ginger, I get the common names, Ginge etc....I also get called BFG = Big friendly ginger.

End of the day it is a joke....its used as a insult sometime but doesn't offend me.

I think its cause its uncommon for people to be ginger, its like normal hair colours are black blonde and brown.

that mentality bothers me
its okay to laugh with someone
but in allot of cases you aren't laughing so much as laughing at, that's flat out cruel and in my opinion no different then a racial or sexist slur

when its a friend or a sibling and your bickering back and fourth ya
you know the boundary's, you know whats okay to joke about and what isn't and at the end of the day you know that you care about eachother so its fine w/e

but when its a stranger no its not cool
and that mentality towards it leads to shit like the ever famous kick a ginger day

I'm not going to or make fun of someone with red hair if I don't know them...that's immature and childish. It's not going to stop me from joking around with my friends and other people who I know can take a joke. People need to use their heads when they are joking around with people...it's really not that hard to do.

Indeed, it's the only recessive gene as far as hair color goes. So unless both parents have red hair, the chances are 1:4 or less that they'll have a kid with red hair. Ginger kids are a dying breed. We need to genetically engineer a lot of ginger babies or we'll eventually be erased off of the face of the earth.

Meaning I'm in a endangered group.

When it becomes more than a little immature joke then I get pissed. Never had a kick a ginge day in my area, if it ever happened here then I wouldn't take the joke so lightly.

I hate the pricks who take it too far. I mean come on, I'm harldy what you can consider a ginger anymore! I can take the occasional joke, but sometimes it just goes too far.

edit: Pat, there's "Kick a Ginge Day" here. Boy was that a fun day...

I couldn't hate gingers. The ginger above me is my friend, and the two gingers above me I consider friends.

Also, one of my best friends is a ginger.

Calling somebody "inger/ginge is like calling somebody blondie or blonde. I don't see how it can offend, it's actually quite stupid. However, it's clearly meant offensively. It's probably people that can't come up with anything else to say, or don't like it because somebody's different.

My hair has a bit of a red tint to it, but I wouldn't say I'm ginger really. So what if I was anyway, it's just a hair colour. People are very quick to jump on the racism bandwagon, I know it's not as common or quite as bad as racism, but it's trying to discriminate somebody because they're 'different'.

I don't use it as an offensive term. Its all just a joke. None of the 'gingers' at my school actually take it seriously, we all know that it is just a joke.

I don't people actually 'hate' ginger kids. Just a fun (or not so fun) stereotype that lives with the red hair.

I personally have this...HUGE fetish for gingers. I've been looking for a firecrotch guy for forever. Argh. But at least I'm not afraid to admit it. Haha.

When I was at school anyone with ginger hair was bullied by the arseholes of the school, it was absolutely disgraceful to be honest. Ginger haired people should be treat equally, hair colour shouldnt mean anything.

Fair enough not wanting to go out with someone because you dont like their hair colour but dont start calling them for something you dislike.

I'm liking this idea proposed by Jessi. I think it's because we're all secretly jealous of gingers because they can look good in virtually anything. (And I said virtually, so shush. :P)
I personally think red hair is sexy, but that's just me. *blushes*

why would people hate ginger kids?
i think thats stupid.
its just a gene thing, they were supposed to be blonde.
ginger kids are just like everyone else.
just because they have red hair and freckles isnt a basis to hate someone.

i have never really heard of people hating ginger kids

My sister's a ginger and she can pull off all those colors.
I, however, can't. :(

Kaleidoscope Eyes

I can't really do red or most pinks, clashes with my hair and realllllly brings out the pink in my skin. If I wear red it has to have enough blue in it or I feel silly. Orange just doesn't work for me, and yellow has to be the right shade of yellow.

Green does work with ginger coloring, that's not an issue, it just looks like Christmas. xD

Do they? I haven't found that very common, although I do find some jokes involving gingers, but funnily enough, it's either from a ginger, or a ginger is laughing with it, so I'd assume that it's a harmless joke. Of course, I understand that you will get the odd bigot with a genuine problem.

My friends parents both have red hair and she's a brunette o.0
but I don't hate gingers, unless I have a reason to hate them because of their personality (my best friends ex is a ginger but I hate him because he broke her heart, not because he has red hair)

Why are gingers thought to have red hair? Red is clearly a different colour; more red, less (or no) green.

Right, two parents with red hair doesn't necessarily guarantee a redheaded baby. The chances are significantly higher, though, because it guarantees that they at least carry the gene for it.
