Hey guys, I need help. I really want to get my grades up to an A average but I am so bored with doing homework and I get distracted by the usual stuff a kid is distracted too. A. Social Life, B. Games, C. T.V, etc.

I know I have the potential because I get usually very good marks on tests but when it comes to homework I just am terrible. I get so bored and usually am frantic at the last minute trying to copy of someone. Any tips would be great.

The reason I am asking this is because I need to start thinking of the future. I am 4 years away from going to college and I just took a survey on the likelihood of me making it to college. It said maybe. I was like... Really? Maybe? I need to get this up. I am struggling through one of my assignments as I type this. The survey was official and everything. Maybe? God I feel like a dumb ass...

I really do need some helpful tips because my only study hall is about to rotated to Art and when that happens I am going to be with no free time the next day to do my homework.

I had 2 C's and the rest were B's last quarter. I had a GPA of 2.2. I need to raise it.

You need to buckle down, if you want to get into a a good college. I hate to be blunt but you need to get your ass in gear. Seriously, school isn't a joke, and if you want your dreams to come true do the work. If you get bored, take a break but come back to your homework. Remember always do your homework if you don't it's like shooting yourself in the foot.

http://www.oswego.edu/ This is the School I want to go too. My Brother got into it, he had a 4.0 GPA. I want to follow his path. I have been to the school and I like it a lot.

On topic: The thing is I say I will do it later but I won't and end up having another incomplete.

Stay after school and ask your teachers for 1 on 1 help. Let them know if you don't understand the assignment, and don't be afraid to speak up in class. The odds are, you arn't the only one wondering what s/he's talking about.

Try to find out about any extra credit assignments, or online reviews. Try your school websites.

Make a schedule of how much time you should put into each activity. And mix it up a little.

Example: (I'm using what time I get home.)
3:30-4, Do *amount of questions.
4-5, Check your info on the computer.
5-6, Grab a snack and work on another page of homework
6-7:30, eat dinner.
7:30-8, Finish homework.
8-9, TV, Computer, Whatever else you want to do.

It's always easier if you break it down into sections. But you have to make sure you change the leisure times based on how much homework and how well you know the material. Try studying the next unit so you're prepared and have an idea of what you're about to learn.

School is hard, but if you really put you mind to it, it makes it a lot easier.

I can't manage a schedule like that though... I've tried. I have homework on the computer, and on paper and it is really aggravating. I am also very tempted to just hop on Xbox and play the day away.

I am going to try to make myself do homework tomorrow by going out on to the porch and lock myself out until my Mom gets home. I have Wireless on my computer and I will have all of my books. I think that that is a decent idea besides the fact that I have two little brothers I watch almost every day... How will I manage this?

I got to be blunt once again. It seems like you don't have much hope. If you always saying aw well you know homework is so boring, its sooo hard to keep a schedule. Your going to hate the work and it will never get done. My schedule if pretty busy, but I think of it as an ultimatum situation. I come home get some work done, go to work, come back and do work. If I get lazy and don't do it I take away relaxation time. All though its a bad stratagy I force myself to get the work done and I helps me.

I spend at least one full weekend day at the public library, per week, from open until close. It is the only environment under which I am able to fully concentrate and maximize productivity. Being in a room full of people concentrated on study is a major positive influence. Other people have found this suggestion helpful in the past, perhaps you will so. If going out is not an option, work in a different room or area of the home. Physically distancing oneself from potential distractions is one of the best ways to guard against them. Sitting within arms length of the computer and mentally saying "I'm not going to touch it until I finish this" is never quite the wisest approach.

Experiment with different study methods. Time of day can also make a significant impact on productivity - are you a morning or evening person?

Good luck with it all. Let us know how things go?

I'll be sure too. I will actually ask my Mom if she will take me too a Library tomorrow. Or if there is one down town (Which every small village has a library right?) I will go there.

Let me answer you with a short personal story.

In high school I was pretty much like you, I would get bored with homework and just toss it aside and later scramble around to get it done, even for large projects. Happily though I did manage to get surprisingly decent marks despite the little time I put in. I thought that since I put in less time than others who put in a lot more yet I still get higher marks, then why bother to try harder? Anyways, for some of the larger assignments I tried harder as I realized I wasn't as high in overall marks as I thought I was relative to the class. After a bit, this got to me because I began to feel somewhat rejected as I had the view, both from my family and school that you needed to have high marks to succeed. I looked at what others did to get high marks and many of them put in more time and had their notes organized in folders or binders compared to me just shoving them quite literally in my bag.

My teacher had a talk with me after class one day because many of the assignments were crinkled up and torn and he then saw my chaotic mess of my backpack. He told me that he could tell I don't spend much time on the assignments and yet I get decent grades, so he told me that spending more time would lead to better grades and that my laid-back method would fail in higher highschool years. But I ignored him.

When it came to parent-teacher conferences, my parents discovered my somewhat atrocious organization and such so they got me binders, folders, etc... and had me re-pack and re-organize my stuff. They then also had me make a schedule and at first they would verify that I stuck to it. I saw how this actually helped me in two ways: 1) I got better grades and was more accepted, 2) I had more time to do what I wanted without needing to scramble around as much for last-minute work and 3) I could sleep longer without needing to do last-minute work.

In order for this to work even better though, since I do some studying in my room, I had to unplug the computer from the Internet unless I needed it for research, turned off the TV, etc... .

Anyways, the point of that was that you need to get a schedule of some sort and adhere to it. Don't make it so that it's constant work, allow room for non-school work and maybe at the end of the day, play Xbox or whatever else. Also, you'll need to focus more on your academics than on social fun but don't isolate yourself, still have fun but do it when your work is pretty much done. Some days at university when some of my friends (we have few to no classes together) ask me if I want to hang out, if I have lots of work then as much as I would like, I don't. It may be a bummer for a bit but you have to think, what is more valuable to you?
