How does everyone think of "fake bisexuals"?
Quote from Dr Phil:
"Is your teenager rebelling by pretending to be bi-sexual? Has your teen pretended to be bi-sexual because he/she thinks it’s cool? Or has your teenage daughter pretended to be bi-sexual to attract boys?"
You can see the article here: http://www.afterellen.com/blog/gracechu/dr-phil-attempts-to-recruit-fake-bisexual-teens
What do you think of this?

Actually, you would be surprised how many do. Especially girls, because guys think it's "hot" when a girl is attracted to another girl. Some might not really be aware that they're sort of faking it, but a ton of teens who say they're bi will look back a few years later and say, "Wow, why did I tell everyone I was bi, I'm really not." I'm not saying that they're confused and they eventually figure it out. I'm saying they will openly call themselves bi, and make it a big part of their whole identity, and then they realize that they never were and they just wanted something to identify with.
It happens a lot.

'Nuff said.
actually no, that was just a smartass comment.
I do think some people (granted, self included) will use bisexual as a way to not have to deal with some of the stigma of being gay, but for being 'cool'? Yeah. No.

Maybe "cool" is the wrong word, but it's certainly becoming a bit of a fad with some kids. Like I said, they want something to identify with, and thus this generation is suddenly seeing a massive boom in the amount of "bisexual" teens. It's almost becoming just another trend for some people.

I'm worried I'm one. I've been confused for quite some time and just realized that I'm in love with a boy. Like deeply emotionally in love. But, i'm not sexually attracted to guys only girls.

I'm a strong advocate of birth, rather than nuture. So the fact that kids these days, fake their sexual prefrence to fit in with a fad? That's rather ignorant. Because to them its something cool, but little do they know how many people are suffering becaue they are gay. It's just sad.

Many girls say they are bi in my school. I find it revolting, not saying that its bad but I am not attracted to two girls doing anything with each other.

I know a girl, who because of a boy on the internet, declared herself bi and a vegetarian. She became so obsessed with him and his videos that she changed her whole lifestyle to be like him. She asks my friend advice on how to not eat meat, and how to like girls. if this isn't a fake lifestyle I don't know what is.
Also online, its a big thing to be bi. On chat sites (not forums like this) it is a HUGE fad to be bi, because you can be anyone you want to be on the internet.

Which is pretty sad. Because you can say a whole bunch of lies and someone will respect you.

Bisexuality has been warped to a way of gaining attention, like Asperger's Syndrome (and other e-diagnosises), claiming to be utterly "random", vegetarianism, and glasses.
You know them.
The guy who reads half the page on Wikipedia about Asperger's Syndrome and decides he has it because he desesperately wants to have an explanation for his God-given mediocre social skills, even though he may just be bad with people and that's it.
The person who tries so hard to say anything at anytime even if it's completely outside the context of a given convo, because he or she thinks he or she is completely weird and random, while not realising having to think about being random defeats the whole purpose.
The guy who fills your ears up about how eating meat is bad, and you catch him an McDo devouring a quarter-pounder with cheese one week later.
The girl who declared that she will never go out with a guy with glasses because they are all sad nerds but hurries to buy a pair of neuter-lens glasses because it's trendy to have glasses as long as you don't need them.
I despise them all.

I have. I've seen kids all like, "I think I have Asperger's..." without even understanding what it is, or having ever asked a doctor. They have crap social skills and they think that's enough to qualify a diagnosis. Plus, it gives them an excuse to not try to work on improving said social skills. ("Oh, I have Asperger's, it's not my fault, nothing I can do about it.")

This post. (http://www.virtualteen.org/forums/showpost.php?p=696886&postcount=16) Fake bisexuals were compared to the kids who self-diagnose themselves with Asperger's.

I think this is something mainly done by girls, since a somewhat large number of guys find girl-on-girl action to be a turn on. I doubt many guys do this, because most straight guys aren't comfortable enough in their sexuality to even think about gay sex. Plus, most guys just figure that girls aren't turned on by gay sex anyway, so why fake being something you're not to impress them?
So, in short, I think girls sometimes fake being bi, but guys seldom do.

That SO gets my panties in all sorts of bunches. Like fake bisexuals. That also riles me up.
As if AS was only about social skills. There's all sorts of things that go with it : digestion problems, sensory disorders, sleeping disorders, alexithymia, clumsiness, walking weird...
Perhaps if I began to list everything I have, in addition to really bad social skills, it'd keep some from claiming the condition because "omg I have no friends...except Tim and Jeff and George and uhh". Like, it'd scare them.
It's just like fake bisexuals. They think it's cool and trendy and it may explain the time where they looked at their same-sex friend's butt a little too long, ignoring the whole getting judged by others and hunted by homophobes part (I jest, I jest).

I do know it exists. It's called whores saying they are bisexual, when really there is no love aspect to anything they do.

It winds me up when people who are confused about their sexuality adopt a label (most commonly "bisexual") just so they can go about saying "Oh, I'm a bisexual" until they stop being confused.
That said, it winds me up even more when people attribute such behaviours and motives to all bisexuals.
Bisexuality has been warped to a way of gaining attention, like Asperger's Syndrome (and other e-diagnosises), claiming to be utterly "random", vegetarianism, and glasses.
I hope you aren't saying that bisexuality as a whole is a way of getting attention...

And I would be claiming by the same token that all Asperger's Syndrome diagnosises and vegetarianism are all just pleas for attention, one of which affects me directly.

Actually, it's a big thing here...
My sister's in 7th grade, and in her school, almost EVERY girl is "bi".
She told me she might become one, too. I got pissed at her, and told her not to believe what everyone in her stupid school says. I hope she doesn't find out I'M bisexual...><

I don't think most teens fake it. In today's world, being bi-sexual is something that is serious and you may very well get seriously made fun of for it. At least that's how it is around here. Hence the reason no one around here knows about my orientation.

I say that because I know a lot of people that say they are bi, yet don't really show a love for anyone. For them it's as simple as "That person is hot, I want to have sex with them.".

I hate to sound boring, but I haven't heard of any of this going on where I live. Anywho...
I can't imagine many guys being fake bisexuals, but I know many guys who have said that bi girls are "hot". I don't know any girls who pretend to be bi - but I know plenty of girls who have kissed other girls but don't class themselves as bi.

I haven't seen anyone here pretend to be bi, but I have definitely seen people fake other things. Eating disorders is a big one, claiming to be emo, saying they've been abused, and recently I've seen people want glasses to fit in. WTH?! It's pisses me off to no end, not to mention it just being wrong. btw the bi-sexual "fad" came around before Katy Perry, her song just rapidly spread it. nothing against her I love the song lol
