There was this girl, she was a brunette
With perfect hazel eyes.
Her smile was my light,
It helped guide me through those cold, cold nights...
And one day when I was holding her hand,
Telling her she's beautiful I let it slip out and,
I said I loved her, I said I loved her,
But she told me, but she told me...
It's not that I don't love you back,
It's just kind of a fact
That I'm with another guy,
He's not better than you,
But I don't want to break his heart.
And just in that moment,
I swear I fell apart,
My knees hit the ground
And I started to cry...
And so she repeated...
It's not that I don't love you back,
It's just kind of a fact
That I'm with another guy,
He's not better than you,
But I don't want to break his heart.
And just in that moment,
I collapsed on the ground,
I couldn't even cry,
My lungs and eyes had swelled...
And I couldn't believe it,
The one girl that I loved,
The one girl that I knew
That I knew was the one...
She tore me apart,
Let my heart hit the ground,
And shatter into pieces,
Pieces that I now
Cannot find...
All because she said...
It's not that I don't love you back,
It's just kind of a fact
That I'm with another guy,
He's not better than you,
But I don't want to break his heart.
And just in that moment,
I swear I fell apart,
My heart hit the ground,
My chest felt so sore...
And just in that moment,
With a tear in my eye
I swear I saw her cry,
She joined with me,
Kneeing down on the ground...
But even with tears in her eyes,
Her hand over her heart like she
Knew it was meant to be,
She still looked at me,
And for the third time she repeated...
It's not that I don't love you back,
It's just kind of a fact
That I'm with another guy,
He's not better than you,
But I don't want to break his heart.
And so I got up, kissed her cheek,
Left her on that city street,
Told her that I wish her well,
And deep down I prayed to God,
Even though I don't believe that much
That she would leave her boy one day
And turn back to me,
And turn back to me...
With perfect hazel eyes.
Her smile was my light,
It helped guide me through those cold, cold nights...
And one day when I was holding her hand,
Telling her she's beautiful I let it slip out and,
