I'm sure many of you have had a chance to see it, some time recently. What are your thoughts?

I am an avid fan of apocalyptic works, and did manage to enjoy it, horrible plot and all, but overall it was extremely disappointing. I went in with quite high expectations.

There was at most two very brief mentions of the Mayan prophecy, which given the title, should have played a much larger part. Not to mention, the apocalypse as depicted did not occur anywhere near December.

Plot was horrible. The only characters I found sympathy for were the Yellowstone hermit and Tibetan Lama. The others were, for the most part, thoroughly unimpressive if not cliche.

In the end, certain aspects did make me think a bit. But definitely in the extent that the producers intended.

It was meh. The special effects were great. But the plot was cheesy and the characters did a horrible job. And I agree they should have put more emphasis on the Mayans and their prophecy.

I think if they overall had a waaaaay more serious tone, it would have been a much better movie.

This movie was directed and stuff by Roland Emmerich, the same guy who's put work into things like Independence Day and The Day After Tomorrow. It's hard not to judge the movie ahead of time when most of his movies felt the same for me, and I didn't really have high hopes for this one.

I still went with a few others to see it. I didn't like it, but I didn't hate it, either. I'm just glad I was not the one to pay for my ticket.

I don't see how spending more time on the Mayans would have benefited this film.

The special effects were great but everything seemed to happen all at once which wouldn't happen in reality.
The humanistic side of things was well caught, though it was at times very cliche.

All in all, it was an alright film but nothing to write home about.

I thought it was good. It never got boring. It was very far-fetched though, but I still liked it.

Pretty stupid, it's pretty much a huge montage of explosions and destruction along with some stupid cheesy plot.

The special effects were really bad, the plot didn't make any sense. And worse of all; the Mayan prophecy that it was supposed to be following... it didn't follow it very well...

I mean how is the film anywhere near similar to this (http://www.adishakti.org/mayan_end_times_prophecy_12-21-2012.htm)

When will people realize that Roland Emmerich has been making the same movie for over 15 years? With the exception of the surprisingly good Stargate. He has a CGI fetish.

It'd probably be easier to take seriously if not very similar to everything else the director's ever worked on.
