I'm at risk for breast cancer. My Grandma had it. My great Aunt -supposedly- has lung cancer and been battling it for 15 years, yes she is the looney in the family.

Dude I'm sorry to hear that.
Me no I am not in risk although I have a few raised freckles (That could indicate Skin Cancer). I am at risk of Heart Disease and Severe Diabetes. My Dad has Hear Disease and my Grandpa has Diabetes really bad. He just got his second leg amputated in two years and had to do emergency surgery on his gull bladder.

I'm sorry to hear that.
I'm at risk, colon cancer runs in my family, my Grandpa fought it twice, and my dad smoked a lot with me around so lung cancer is there too.
if you ever need to talk you can PM me if you want.

It's a form of nerve cancer that's not too common in older kids. I've had surgery and now I'm doing my first round of radiation treatment. I've got great support from my family and my bf so I'm pretty optimistic despite the percentages. The people from this place still make me smile. You guys are all pretty awesome. :D

Well, I haven't had cancer, and luckily it doesn't seem to be a big thing in my family.
But, like I said before, you seem like a very good and interesting person and I struggle to think of anyone I know online who is less deserving of such a misfortune.
I'm sure you'll be fine though. You seem more like the kind of person that would deal with the situation and grow from it, rather than give in to it.
But good luck with it all anyway.;)

Thanks Ricky. I appreciate your words and thoughts. I think that I have a good chance at beating it. My boyfriend David says its all in the head and he's not going to let me give up. I really hope that I get to know you more. Thanks again.

Sorry to hear about your diagnosis, Chris, but I'm happy you are staying strong and optimistic!
Since I'm adopted, I haven't got a clue if it runs in my family or not. I think I'm probably at more risk for diabetes, but I'm not sure about cancer.
Both diabetes and cancer run in my adoptive mom's family, but I obviously don't have that blood, so I am not at risk there, but I guess I'll never know for sure.

I'm sorry to hear that.
I was dignosed with cancer when I was 3, then it went in remisson. My doctor thinks its back though, I go to the doctors on the 4th.. friday. So i'll know then.
But cancer runs in my family, on both sides.
My grandma (dads side) had "bladder" cancer (idk what its called), and breast cancer 4 times.
Then my grandpa (moms side) had lung cancer and brain cancer. He ended up committing suicide. Then, his 2 sisters died of cancer, and so did both of his parents. My moms had thyroid cancer 3 times, and breat cancer, and she has cancer again.
Cancer runs ridiculously in my family

Thanks guys. I went back to the ER on Thanksgiving and my oncologist told me and my mom that the tests they did showed that it had spread to the other side. For right now they are upping the radiation. I've got another surgery scheduled for after the first of the year so we'll see how it goes. Thanks for all the support guys. I don't know a lot of you but your kind words have really helped.

I believe it was radiation I had when I was small. It might have been chemo though, not sure. It was so long ago. But, I do know whichever it was, I hated it.
Appleton
December 5th, 2009, 11:13 AM
I know! I'm doing radiation right now and I hate it. It figures that pretty much the only place that radiation therapy can make you nauseous is the place I'm getting shot in. I'm really glad they at least give me the weekends to rest up. I think so far I've passed out like 4 times since I started. Don't ya just love side effects? :P
Hang in there Kaci. You're not alone.
zer0x_glasscut
December 5th, 2009, 11:20 AM
Oh yeah, the side effects are great!
My mom had to go for radiation a few months ago. It was bad, they mixed up hers with someone else and gave her to much and she almost died.

i dont have cancer. but my body is trying to destroy my thyroid, its not major but its still there...apparently my brain is sending messages to my thyroid and it is sending to many hormones out into my blood. and tht causes my depression, and while my brain is doing that my immune system thinks it is a virus and is trying to destroy it. but im not that bad off compared to some people

I don't, very fortunately. I'm sorry to hear, Appleton. I can't imagine how it must feel, I know it's said all the time, but just stay strong. My Dad lost an almost two year battle to cancer quite a few years ago. It's a horrible thing that can devastate families and end far too many lives. I really wish that in my lifetime a cure for cancer is found.

I know it's nowhere as near to what you are going through, but I too might have cancer, it's around a 10% chance but still it's there. I was diagnosed in April with a subungual exostosis, which is a tumor of the foot, it's around half apes size and is more often than not benign. Right now there's no reason for alarm until my surgery and biopsy in February. My chiropodist said there's a 10% chance it may be a form of cancer. And if it is I will hope that I can be as strong hearted and courageous as you are :)

I am fortunate to have very good genes. My grandma and every aunt I have have lived past 90 (and still live) without any medical problem. One of my uncles died from liver cancer because of alcoholism, and my grandpa died from lung cancer because he smoked more than a chimney did. Basically we live long unless we screw up.
I think you will live. It seems to be mostly a question of attitude and you seem to have the right one. And when you come back to a normal life, please detail us your experiences and what changed in your perceptions. I think it would make for very interesting reading.
Good luck to you.

I talked to Chris for a few minutes today, he's still in the ICU, but said he might get moved tomorrow. Things got a bit scary after the surgery, had to put him on a ventilator, but he's off now and breathing just fine on his own. Said his head hurts, but that's obviously expected.

sorry about that. my friend has leukemia but she is doing very well. nothing bad has happened so far. ever since she was diagnosed with it ive been helping out with a few students and a teacher to raise money and boy did we raise money. me and three other students and the art teacher made holiday cards for christmas a few years ago to raise money. it felt so good to do that. theres a picture of all five of us as a gift from the teacher hanging on my wall. everyday i look at it and think, what an awesome thing we did. the pic actually makes me want to cry sometimes. so currently shes doing extremely well and she hasnt posted anything about going to the hospital or an operation in a long time. idk how long maybe a year and a half? idk how long.
good luck to you. remember always keep your head up and think positive and think to yourself youll get through it. again best of luck and feel better

I haven't posted on this lately because I was kinda waiting to see how things went. This last time that I went in I had my right kidney removed and about 7 inches removed from intestines. I've been back home a little over a week now. I'm still getting treatments but my doctor is still pretty optimistic. Except for some drama on the table, the surgery went pretty good. I'm still getting massive headaches almost daily and have started throwing up at least 3 or 4 times a week. That's all kind of new so not really sure whats going on.
Again I just wanted to say thanks to everybody that has supported me and sent me well wishes. I really appreciate it. I hope one day I can meet you guys. That would be kinda cool.
