Why wasn't this announced?

Hay Umm... I was just wondering, why there wasn't a message about this, this being no more private messaging in the chat room?

Hm, I'm not sure. It's been in effect for some time, though, maybe as much as a couple months. It isn't a super recent change in any case. I need to go back and find out exactly when (like the month) that it was changed, because now it's bugging me that I can't remember. xP

Since private messages in the flashchat aren't viewable on the logs, admin can't monitor them. A lot of inappropriate activity in flashchat happens over those messages, and unless a member takes a screenshot, we can't do anything about it because there's no real evidence. This caused issues with members who were asking for sexual photos or otherwise being creepers through the private message dealio, because they potentially were able to keep doing it to other people for a while until someone screenshotted or until they said something in the main chat room. Long story short, it was abused too much and wasn't really able to be controlled. So, it got changed.

Sorry it wasn't announced, but I will find out when it was changed for you. And for me because, like I said, it's bugging me. xD

Maybe they are viewable and I'm just confused. I thought that was part of the reasoning for disabling them though, because they were harder to monitor.

Who knows though. I'm a bit of a spaz lately it seems like, I could be wrong. xD

That's the main reason I didn't/don't use the flash chat, every 5 minutes someone sends you a PM asking for pics,webcam or msn.

It was done to bring more transparency to the chat room. That way more people can monitor what's going on since everything is out in the open. It wasn't announced because it was sort of a temporary thing at first that became permanent and it sort of slipped my mind.

I'm glad it's gone. I am so sick and fucking tired of noobs coming into Flashchat and doing nothing but talking over private messages. There could be 10 people in the room but not one word gets uttered because it's all PMs. Gods.

i have never never had a convo in private FC that someone else started that wasnt about what is your msn, how big is your dick and etc etc.

Wait, so it's not against the rules to give out MSN addresses? If not, is giving out Facebook profiles allowed?

In your User CP there's an option to edit your profile details. There, you can put in your MSN contact info, as well as AIM, Skype, ICQ and Y!M, and you are welcome to put that info in there if you like. If you want to link a friend to your Facebook profile that's fine, too, just don't go around posting it and bugging people to add you as a friend.

I think private chat had it's goods and bads. But when a good amount of people abuse something, there needs to be change. If you need help with someone, exiting out of FC and PMing them is the next best thing. That or AIM, MSN, Skype, etc.
