When it counts BBCode, it is ridiculously small. Do something about it please.

Yes, our sigs could be larger, but what could we do to get them larger? Go on VT strike? I'm serious. (btw yes that does sound wrong Aves)

You could always use less BBCode?
I've had moments where I had to shorten my sig to make it fit, as well, but I've never found it to be a huge issue; just a mild annoyance at times.

Ugh. But why? It's not hard to lengthen the limit at all. Why should people have to bother shortening their sigs anyway when all that needs to be done is changing a little number in the admin CP? I just don't understand why we're always so damned reluctant to change anything here unless it's unbelievably important.
Kaleidoscope Eyes
November 11th, 2009, 01:05 AM
I'm not saying it can't be changed, just that there are options such as using less code. Personally, I just don't have a huge problem with it. My opinion isn't the only one that matters though.

Or, you could not put so much useless crap in your sig.

I don't think that it's needed, the point of a signature is just something small to tag on the end of a post (unless I'm mistaken), it isn't meant to be a big display of everything you can think of.

I agree, very many times the signature is bigger than the content of the post. Its already out of proportion.

Reading threads should focus on the content of the point and not have invasive distracting signatures get in the way. I'm not keen on changing it.

NO!!! jk. But TootsiePop is good at taking over threads lol.

Although I dont normally care about how much space I need in my signature, One or two more lines couldn't hurt I guess.
Kaleidoscope Eyes
November 11th, 2009, 11:38 PM
The current limit is about 25 lines in the little box when you go in to edit your signature, it appears, and I know that already seems like a lot to me.

November 12th, 2009, 06:34 AM
Didn't it used to be like 8 lines? So 25 is pretty damn good.
I personally think that the signiture limit is too big.
Death

I'd agree. If anything, signitures are far too large, not small.

On another forum I visit, the signature has no set character limit, but it HAS to be shorter than 250px on page load (We have a 'hide' button that we can use to shrink the size of sigs), the mods there enforce that rule like no other.
So we could do that here, raise the character count really high, and have a 'respected' sig height. As in, yes, you could have a sig bigger than that, but the ENTIRE thing will get erased, and replaced by a picture of of a squirrel outlining the size your sig can be.
And before ANYONE goes preaching to me about how it will 'add extra work for the mods', that site has nearly 15 times the active members than this site has, but only has 5 active mods, TOTAL.
The mods here can certainly handle it.

For the record signatures are maximum of 10 lines.

Just because it works for one forum it doesn't mean it'll work for us too. I think things are just fine.

It comes out to more than 10 in the "edit signature" box because that box is smaller, though, right? I know mine is currently 12 or 13 in that box, but if I copy and paste it into a box the size of the Quick Reply box it comes out to just about 9. Either way, where did the 25 thing come from, then? Now I'm confusing myself.

Heather - I thought it was 8 lines for awhile too.
Could we just make it so BBCode doesn't count in the character limit, so we can have colorful text.

Kaleidoscope is longer than Jessi, so you're really using an elongated version of it.
If BBCode didn't count in the lines I'd be happy.

I called her Kalei instead of Jessi. Kalei is shorter than Kaleidoscope.
And before this turns into an internet fight, if it were able to be anyway, I leave this thread.

It's been settled.
The limit is fine the way it is.
It's a signature, not a life story.
And we don't want signatures getting to the point where you're seeing all signature and no post when scrolling through threads.

I think the sig space is fine, if you use it properly,
Anyway, I use my iPod touch to view this site a lot of the time, which is fine as I use wifi. But for people with limited bandwidth or on a pay as you go phone don't want to be wasting bandwidth/money on gigabyte signatures. Also, if every VT member had a 3 gig sig, the extra server space required would be phenomenal. You get this site for free - the web masters don't.

To get a 3 gig sig you'd need a picture with the real-life dimentions of 200 ft x 200 ft.
Insanely huge.
We're talking an image with a resulution of 384000 x 204800 px. (The average monitor is 1280x1024)
Also, the pictures and various other random graphics are NOT hosted on this site, they are hosted on sites like photobucket and imgbay. ONLY the BBCode & the text is stored locally on the server. And text is NOTHING to store.
