I'm trying to copy the files from my dad's "Halloween" director's cut DVD but there's a problem.

I'm able to get the IFOs and BUPs copied without a problem. However, when it comes to the VOBs, I can't get them out. Why? They're encrypted. I've searched pretty much everywhere for a program (a free one) that will be able to copy the files without a hassle. Imgburn, a program I use for buring DVDs, can't read the discs, so is there anyone who can help me out?

Try DVDShrink. You'll have to Google it, as it was discontinued a while ago, but is still in their website. Its free.

Isn't that...illegal...?

As long as I'm not making copies and selling them. It's personal use. No intent to break the law.

Jack - Thanks, I'll try it out.

Technically illegal, but there is an argument for fair rights use. I do it. I use Handbrake on a MAC. I can't burn a disc, but I can put it on my iPod.

Technically NOT illegal.
The legal rights agreement for motion pictures states that from the original disk you bought, you are allowed to make 1 (ONE) backup copy incase the original is damaged. If you sell or give the original to someone else, you are supposed to destroy the copy you made, so the new owner can legally make a copy of his-own.
