Cartoons should be given movie-style age ratings to protect children from the violence shown in programmes such as Scooby Doo and Batman, a child safety expert has warned.

Scooby Doo is one of the cartoons child safety expert Dr Karen Pfeffer claims contain risky behaviour likely to adversely influence children Dr Karen Pfeffer, a senior lecturer at Lincoln University, said that risky behaviour which would normally lead to injury is rarely shown to have negative consequences in cartoons.

She claims to have found evidence that there children who watch violent programmes are more likely to engage in risky behaviour and injure themselves

Dr Pfeffer, who is also an international mentor for the World Health Organisation, will address the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents this week and call for children's television programmes, particularly live action programmes, to carry ratings for parents to make informed choices for their children.

Among the programmes she deemed to contain the most risky behaviour were Scooby-Doo, Batman, X-Men and Ben 10.

Yeah, cartoons like Scooby-Doo are dangerous, yet games like GTA aren't?

Are you referring to the marijuana references in Scooby Doo?

But yeah, all Scooby Doo ever made me want to do was eat fajitas.

Ugh. More of this 'protecting our children' regime. This no-risk lifestyle enforcement is ruining their lives. And it's all due to stupid, stupid parents who start suing people when their child gets hurt.

Yeah, why would someone get mad when their kid gets hurt?

T.V is a place to escape reality. Scooby-doo isn't and never will be reality. Thats what's so good about it. Deeming it dangerous or putting "Viewer discretion advised" before it will do nothing more than anger people.

IT IS A PLACE TO ESCAPE! Not a place to learn. Although they are some very good channels like the History Channel I like to watch occasionally.

I was brought to the hospital once now if some kid falls and scraps their knee its like OMG I must clean this cut and put a plaster on it and blame it on tv I was just told to go let the air heal it

I'm of an older generation that still grew up on Looney Tunes cartoons.

It's not because Coyote tries to bash Roadrunner's head in with a dropped anvil that I'm going to start dropping anvils on cars from a high point.

Subsequently, everyone knew the Mystery Machine crew were all hippies and beatniks that smoked good weed. The scarves that Freddie and Daphne wear are a telltale sign of hippie swingers.

B'sides, also everyone knew that Freddie always sent Shaggy and Scooby on their way, while he always brought Daphne with him and never found anything worthwhile because he totally shagged Daphne in a closet somewhere.

Are we worse human beings for it?

Bunch of failures.
