Terrified..

I had an ecg a few days ago following an overdose, they found an abnormality with my heart..after 3 days of tests ive been told i need surgery to correct the problem..Im terrified..help

You will be ok. I know that it's scary, but you'll be ok. Heart surgery is serious. But you are young so you will be able to recover fully and live for many, many years.

When do they want to do it?

They havent given a date. When i was told i couldnt really comprehend it and walked out. My parents know most of it but i dont feel ready to know whats going on. I need a check on my heart once or twice a week but im on a waiting list at the moment. i just need to wait for a call to give a date

Well, it's good that you know now and can get it sorted before it causes any major problems for you.

Apart from scared, how are you feeling about it all?

Very numb. i dont really know how to think about it all. the thought of knowing this could actually kill me petrifies me. Considering this was caused by an attempt at overdosing im hoping this is a good sign that im scared

There isn't a set way you should think and feel. You feel like this and that is ok. It is a lot to take in. Take it one day at a time, look after yourself and see how you go.

How is everyone at home? Are they letting you cope with this in the way that you want to?

Their a bit cautious at the moment. like..their not forcing me to face it. their waiting for me to ask them what's going to happen instead of constantly bringing it up. I couldnt really ask for anything else at the moment.

Aaron, as you know, I think its perfectly understandable that you are scared, who wouldnt be? I'd be terrified to. I do think you should face up to the talk with your parents so that you know exactly how things are. Beyond that you know I am here for you.
