The fire in November
Rages onward toward December,
But just as the flame of winter
Erupts high into the night sky,
A snow flake descends from the heavens
And the fire is smothered
Into the ground.

The smiles of the children
In the overcrowded classroom turn to looks of confusion,
While the imp-like child in the corner of the classroom
With the red and green dunce cap
And the wicked smile on his face
Continues smiling.

So don't blame God for winter in December,
Blame the fire for blazing ever so gently,
Gently enough to be put out by a snowflake,
A beautiful, angel-blessed snowflake.

And don't blame the imp-like child in the corner of the classroom
Because the solstice hasn't hit yet
And that snowflake, though angel-blessed
Is not a sign of winter
But a sign of everlasting peace
In a place I like to call
The middle of Nowhere.
