Antidepressants?
Have you ever been on one?
I have,(zoloft) and I just wanted to know if it effected others it effected me.
My dreams wend crazy, more real...
I was hungry and easily gained weight.
I was restless at night (hard to sleep)
I was hyper.
And, when I got lazy and stopped for 2 weeks, when I started again,, I had massive headachs for 3 days!
I'm no longer on meds, but did it effect you that way?

I've never heard of the hyperness as a side effect. I've been on anti-depressants for the past seven years, and they've all effected me in one way or the other.

Seeing as how Zoloft is a SSRI, all of the side-effects you mentioned are known to occur. From one of the textbooks in pharmacology, it says 15-20% of patients on SSRIs experience anxiety and restlessness. Other patients may also experience nervousness, headaches, etc... . Weight gain is usually viewed as a long-term side-effect. All the side-effects you listed are common ones and of course there are plenty of other side-effects.

Antidepressants are medicines that treat depression. Your doctor can prescribe them for you. They can improve your mood, sleep, appetite and concentration. It may take several weeks for them to help. There are several types of antidepressants. You and your doctor may have to try several before finding what works best for you.

Actually, anti-depressants work by manipulating the hormone levels which control your mood. Some work with seratonin, others with dopamine or norepinephrine. For some people they're a great option for keeping your mood regular and preventing depression. Whether you take them or not just depends on the circumstances and personal preference. On the whole they're not unsafe, and there's no reason to worry about them.

I've been on some antidepressant or another for four years and some change. I've taken Wellbutrin (worked, but not enough), Prozac (worked, but I developed a tolerance over time and eventually it didn't do the job as well anymore), and Effexor (been on this one for the past year and so far no complaints).
It sounds like Zoloft just wasn't the one for you, but whether you eventually try something else or not is up to you.
A little advice, though:
I don't know how long you were on them, but you should know that unless you experience a sudden increase in depression or suicidal thoughts, you should always give new drugs a good two or three weeks for your body to acclimate before you decide they're not worth it. Side-effects can often show up for the first few weeks and then go away once your body gets used to it. That's why you wait. Also, stopping cold turkey for two weeks and then suddenly starting again is most likely what caused your headaches--not just the drug itself. That's why you're never supposed to just stop taking your pills, it can cause serious problems. Once you go on an antidepressant, you commit to it. You can't just "get lazy" and not take them, or things like headaches are bound to happen in most cases.

I tried so many different kinds of anti-deppresents. Then I finally got put on Paxil and it was the only thing that works for me. I did gain weight though. And I was usually really tired all the time. I would take naps every day. But my doc put me on Aderall and I lost a lot of weight and was able to stay awake during the day. But I still have some totally strange dreams, sometimes I can't believe they came from my brain. xD

Well I guess we should pretty much stop taking almost every medication then, especially ones affecting behavior then. You'll find that although they try to make the medications to manipulate a certain system, the medication manipulates other systems causing side-effects, although it may not be understood how those side-effects occur. If the medication relieves the symptoms and is safe, should we abandon taking them because we don't know how the side-effects occur? I say we shouldn't because if you know anything about pharmacology, you'll know even for non-psychoactive agents, it's not cut-and-dry with A causing B. Generally it's a system that's affected and there are numerous factors involved.

I take Zoloft. I haven't had any side effects besides being happier and feeling better! :)
I take it for anxiety not depression though.

I've been on citalopram and mitrazapine before. I'm using mitrazapine atm and have been for a while now. Citalopram had different side effects for me; I completely lost my appetite while on it, I had insomnia a lot and didn't sleep as many hours per night, lost sexual desire and lost weight. Now that I'm using mitrazapine my appetite is back to normal and I sleep very well (most nights 8-9+ hours considering it's a sedative medication meant to help you relax/sleep). It's also for anxiety, not necessarily depression. I'm also now using a form of beta-blocker for anxiety too.
Also with this type of medication, you should be careful while attempting to come off of it, and make sure you consult a medical professional. I'm obviously not a doctor but the thing to do would be to come off the medication gradually and to not go cold turkey so to speak. Meaning, coming off would mean that you'd half your medication and/or take a tablet only once every other day (if you're originally taking one tablet a day). Then eventually go to once every three/four days then come off entirely.

I've been taking Zoloft for a while. Never seemed to notice if it effected me or not. But lately I've been having trouble sleeping. I can't go to bed at a decent time but then I'm up at like 4 or 5 in the morning and can't go back to sleep. I don't know if being hyper is a side effect for me as I have ADHD and use the Daytrana patch for that (when i don't get sidetracked and forget to put it on) :P Squirrel!
