Between tomorrow and Sunday, I will be buying a new laptop to replace my ThinkPad T41. I have narrowed it down to two choices. One Gateway, one Asus. The Asus has better reviews, but the Gateway has HDMI out, which is something I would like to have.

The Asus Laptop (http://www.bestbuy.com/site/Asus+-+Laptop+with+Intel%26%23174%3B+Pentium%26%23174%3B+Processor+-+Midnight+Blue/9555992.p?id=1218124206463&skuId=9555992)

The Gateway Laptop (http://www.bestbuy.com/site/Gateway+-+Laptop+with+AMD+Athlon%26%23153%3B+X2+Dual-Core+Processor+-+Coffee+Brown/9548643.p?id=1218122584574&skuId=9548643)

I'm leaning towards the Gateway, because Gateway is the only brand computer that we haven't had problems with. But there is an AMD processor in our current desktop and it SUCKS.

So I'm completely confuzzled on which one to get. $500 is my absolute maximum.

Well I have a Compaq CQ60 with an AMD processor and it runs perfectly. I suppose the tipping point is the HDMI out. If you really need it.

(I would check craigslist btw I got mine for $350 instead of $500) Just sayin.

Don't bee looking up stuff at Best Buy. The best deals are on Amazon. Look up something like an HP dv5 series laptop. Those are always the best in my opinion. Or the Acer Timeline series. They're not too fast for their price but the battery life is beast. I was so close to getting one but landed on an HP dv6. Either way you can't go wrong.

Well I'm buying it at a Best Buy store. And I've only had problems with HP stuff, and the Timeline series has slow processors, and I'll be messing with Photoshop and stuff so I'd like a decent processor.

I can pretty much guarantee that the computer you are using, is made in China, or another Asian country. Or at least the parts are if you custom built it. As is pretty much everything.
