Do you all think that it's really as bad as the media makes it out to be, or is the media exaggerating a bit for just a story and parental attention?

well, its a place with preditors, and pray.
innocent people using it for what its for.
and then people exploting it for its public information.
i'm a member, but i don't give information out to anyone.
even my friends...they can just call me.

Charlie you beat me to this, I was gonna make this topic. Well the website was fine, until all of those sexual preadtors came on. It makes me sick that innocent kids are benig raped. I think the media is doing a good job bring with to peoples thoughts. A girl in my school was raped by someone she met on my space. But then again you are taking a risk giving out any information on the web.

MySpace... bottom line:
14 year old girls who post half nude pics of them are OF COURSE going to be flagged for predators. I mean, people pust so much information about themselves on there and crap like that, have you no sense of security?!

It's really only the immature, stupid people who are stalked. And with over what? How many millions of people on MySpace now? There's a lot of stupid people.

OK, that was a very generalized judgment call, but you understand what I'm saying. Some of these people just ASK to be stalked.

In my opinion, the media was stupid for saying anything about this - or rather was stupid for making it so serious. Now, every parent that has heard about it thinks it's a horrible site meant to "get" their children, any higher-up school staff members are now trying to prevent access to it at school, and any "predators" that now exist are there because the media told them exactly what to do...

I'm not sure if my parents have heard about it or not, but I know that my school's proxy now blocks the website and if anyone is caught trying to access the website, they will get either suspended or expelled depending on what URL they were using (either to the home page or to a certain member's profile). Now, since the media made a huge deal over one case, every pedophile predator now has an account there and knows exactly what to do and what to say to get someone. I mean, the media has elaborated so much on every detail that anyone could fake anything without any experience or know-how, so this basically means the amount of predators on that website quadrupled... -_-

The website is pretty much just the same as instant messaging. You have a profile, you have buddies. You can send messages about whatever you want, and you can also befriend/ignore whoever you want. It's no worse and no better than instant messaging (or the internet in general).

yea, i mean i've in the past gotten some pretty sketchy people asking to be my friend saying they think im cute and im kinda smart enough to stay away from them. But like it's been so over-rated on how its dangerous. my school blocks it w/ a huge number of other sites most of which have no reason to be blocked at all. but my friends and i find ways around them, o we do >;)

I have a myspace and that is the first site i actually trust to put semi personal information on. I can chose my friends and i only approve those who i know. I do think it is a dangerous site, but aren't all those types of sites dangerous?? You never know who's at the other end... it could ~really~ be a teen boy/girl... but it could also be a middle aged pervert... u never know... use ur own discression *sp*...

OKay, so I'd like to start off that I have a myspace.

And I'm smart enough to know how to protect myself from "predators" on there. MySpace gives you SO much more privacy than you may think. I have my profile to be viewed by ONLY people on my friends list, you have to know my last name and/or email address to send me a friend request. And there's always that neat little block user button.

It's common sense to use MySpace, honestly. It's not MYSPACE that's the problem, its the 6th graders using MySpace that change their age to 18 and take half naked pics of themself. Idiotic.

If you don't know how to keep yourself protected, don't use MySpace

My Myspace is really important. I can share poetry and meet people.
