For my GCSE's, one of the ones I chose was Drama. something my mum sees no point in whatsoever. I've skipped on the school show this year (its a musical, and I really can't sing), so now she wont shut up all 'why did you take drama then, what a waste of a GCSE, you could of taken something useful ffs'
she doesn't get drama's more than parading around on a stage like a twat -__-
okay fair enough maybe I took it for all the wrong reasons to begin with.
Fact of it was I wanted greater control over my ability to switch personalitys and putting myself in other peoples shoes to an insane degree, which can get wild at times. I took it for greater control over the fake smile I wear, hoping it would help me get into that frame of mind, instead of the depressed one I'm actually in.
But now I realised that I didn't just take it for those reasons deep down, I took it because I do enjoy it. Yet she can't see it.
Anybody else have disaproving parents on the subjects they chose?

Its a sad fact that some subjects are more regarded than others, that is just the way it is due to media, popularity etc.
With drama you could try to say how it is good, it works well with English, teaches you how to present yourself etc but usually people have their mind set.
From my own personal experience my parents disagreed with some of my choices at both GCSE and A level. However it is something I dealt with by just doing it, getting the grades in them and moving on.

My parents aren't like that, they understand. They get disappointed though. I'd hate to have parents that did that.

My parents are somewhat polar opposites, my father is into sciences whereas my mother is into accounting, literature analysis, etc... . When I took 1st-year psychology in university, my father wasn't all too thrilled because he assumed it was simply psychoanalytic theories and whatnot.
When I did 2nd-year university ecology, although both of my parents showed some interest in it, they couldn't really care all that much about it. I suppose that was probably more disappointment or not caring all that much rather than not approving.
For 1st-year sociology which I'm doing right now, my father finds some of it to actually be a bit interesting but for the most part he doesn't care that much. My mother on the other hand loves it.
My father doesn't disapprove or seem disappointed in all the courses as most of them (i.e. over 3/4 of them) are science ones. While I still am studying psychology, my father realized I'm not that much into areas such as social psychology (I find it interesting but I'll save my reasons on it for another time). He realized though that what I like, namely neuroscience, neurology, psychiatry, pharmacology, etc... are of course sciences and he's a chemistry geek (among other things). My mother though doesn't disapprove or seem disappointed, she loves the idea of it and she has no problem when I tell her about one of the lectures even though I have to explain to her what exactly the various dopamine receptors do and so forth.
Both of my parents though do like one other course I'm in, despite it not being physiological or pharmacological, and that is forensic psychology. My father heavily supports law officials and my mother always has an interest in abnormal, social, developmental, etc... psychology.
When it comes to drama though, I never took it partially because I saw no point in taking it. I thought that while it may have been a nice bird-course, I want to take courses in topics I'm interested in, and in high-school, I could care less about drama.
