I don't know about you, but i'm a huge fan of music.
I enjoy many different titles, from indie/folk/rock to death metal.
tool, a perfect circle, and bright eyes are some of my fav's.
but perhpas its just me, but it seems like a lot of the music that we see in our modern day lack meaning.
music is art to me.
its intwined in my life, and lyrical meaning and talent are important to me when choosing a band to listen to.
many bands you see on telivision don't write there own lyrics, or there own music.
and that distrub's me.
so my question is, do you still listen to bands even if they have sold there soul for your fat ass dirty dollar?

note: i know this could go in the 4th wall, but I figured I would put it in here, as I feel like it could become a hot debate topic.

Meaningfull lyrics are great, but an added bonus thats all. As long as it sounds good it doesn't really matter what the lyrics are, they just have to fit for me. Of course like I said good lyrics are great, but not important.
I like a band for their music, not the people who are in it. The band should write their own music and I can't think of any bands I like who don't, but I reckon I would like them anyways, because the music is good.

well my music is music that i like and that makes me feel happy inside, and i couldnt care less if the band is a sell out, the song is a hundred years old et cetra et cetra, i just listen to what sounds good to me!!:D and its just a coincidence that the song could have great lyrics, like take I Am What I Am, you may think of that as some uber Gay Anthem or wat not, but it has very good lyrics! anyway i lvoe my music even if no one else does so....*sticks out tongue* :D

Music means so much to me, so when sombody sells there soul just to make more money...that like hurts.
its art, its special, its not something you do as a job, its a lifestye.

Yes I like music that have meaning, but I don't care if the band wrote it or not, it just matters how it sounds.

I really hate rapper that go like :yo yo yo I got da ho, yo yo yo i'm rich, not a bitch, yo yo yo .

That is Dumb

define selling out
if your saying that someone else writting some of there songs is selling out I think your wrong there are allot of very very talented writters out there but they dont have the ability to play there own music some dont want to they want to hear it expressed through someone else
I don't see anything wrong with that
as long as the lyrics have meaning
depth to them
I don't see a problem with it
Then again other times i like simple shit like Lets go, woke up this morning, wont back down, last resort, fatal, etc (i have no idea if they wrote them or not)

I like everything from lil jon to evanescence to james blunt
god you name it
depends on my mood
as long as it sounds good i dont have a problem with it

when an artist comprimises there integrity, morality and principles just to get famous or to make more money.
when they are a hard core original band that is uniqe and wonderful that releases an album that is poppy and mainstream, just so they get on the charts.
when sombody conforms to mainstream popularity just to look good.
thats selling out.

but you speak of rap that is in the mainstream that is....sold out.
many MANY rap musicans are VERY talented.
they sing from the heart and there lyrical capibilities are unrivled.
remember, just because the popular rap may not cater to your opionion of good music.
that doesnt mean its not good.

Its not selling their soul, and yes it is an art, but it is also a job. Just like being a painter is a job. Being musical is not a lifestyle...
It does annoy me when a band I like, changes so that what they play is different and I don't like it anymore.
But hey, you gotta do what you gotta do to put food on the table. If the music is good who cares.

yeah, cuz they cant put food on the table with 850000 dollars a year
they want to go for the 85000000.
its so hard these days to put food on the table with 850000

Such wisdom!

Music is a bussiness just like anything else
If it wasen't the industry wouldn't be nearly as big or powerful

If you’re running a business selling coffee
do you adapt to cater to the cliental survive and grow
or do you just go out and say I’m doing THIS and THIS only and watch the business die

Hell i'm glad they change because when they do more people like them
they touch more lives
help more teens
The music industry becomes even stronger
In Canada teens have allot of say in what happens with Much Music and MTV
it allows us to be herd

if you want to listen to a musician that doesnt care about the music, that just cares about the fame and the money.
go ahead.
but i listen to music for the art, the beauty.
the skill involved.
it is a lifestyle.
i live my life by music.
and i think its sad when a band thats really deep and original.
changes there entire style to make more money.
and to comment about your coffee shop thing.
thats way different.
coffee is not an art, coffee is a drink, that people drink.....so they can stay awake.
that particular industry thrives on consumers buying there coffee.
music is an art, which has a similer industrial consumer choice, however, its still an art.
something thats much deeper and more complex then you can comprehend.
truly blending the cords, and matching perfect with a lyrical depth that moves people is art.
picking a simple cord with a simple beat and a simple, cathcy but shallow lyric.....its shameful.

kolte you are soooooo self-righteous
who says they don't belive in there music?!?
what makes you think your better then the HUNDREDS OF MILLIONS of other people that love music fuck your arrogant

everythings always black and white with you -shakes head- dosen't work like that
YES they care about there music but they want to have a carrer to
they want money, they want to have power so they can change things
who can blaim them!
when we used to talk on msn you'd go on and on about how your going to be a millionare with the coffee franchise that you want(ed) to start
Theres nothing wrong with wanting to have money
how can you help others without it

every forum of art out there has to be balanced with what the people desire what the artist feels and what it costs to create
weither its paintings
poetry
music
theater
fuck take ur pic

I'm not talking about people earning fucking six figures am I. I'm talking about the bands who record a CD and then tour their asses of for years playing every night. Then they still only just scrape enough to get by. Those bands need the god damn money, and even then some of those just keep it underground for the music. There are thousands of bands who people know of, but they still only just pull in enough cash to get by. Some even still have day jobs for fucks sake.
If a band like that needs the money then they need the money, end of.

I'd rather you not call me names but hell, if thats your style then go ahead.
i was not being arrogant, nor was i seeing the picture black and white.

"who says they don't believe in there music?"

whoever said that they didnt?
no I, nor did I imply that they didnt believe in there music.
thats something you brought up at radom.
its true I really don't think brittney spears or the backstreet boys arent very good when it comes to music.
they may be able to sing, but what messge are the sending?
what contribution to art did they make?
anyone can show you a picture that you likes when sombody drew it.
all they have to do it say, look, look how good this picture is.
but it means so much more when the artist themself say, look, look what i have drawn, look at the symbolism.
you can help others without money, it takes communication and speech.
talking can do wonders.
I'm quite aware of music being a profession, since i myself have gotten into the business.
i'm not saying that its not, but above all its an art.
and when sombody butchers art, i fell sad.
i never said that the music was awful.
its catchy, and fun to listen to for some poeple.
and they are free to go out and listen to it.
I don't quite comprehend your sudden flood of anger twards me, but to each his own.
just because everyone likes something, doesnt mean its good.
