Soo, I found this poem in my room at my grandparents' house while on holiday, written about a year back.. I really like it tbh, because at the time it was a real turning point for me, and especially when I realise just quite how much things have improved for me since I wrote this.. it reminds me a lot of hope too in a way.. it just makes me happy to read :)

Every year her birthday wish stayed the same
Always wishing for just one more little flame
She thought thirteen candles would light the way
To her brighter day
Only every year seemed to stay the same
She's sick and tired of this waiting game
But thirteen candles will make it all okay
Is what she'd used to say

'Six years down, seven to go
I'm nearly halfway there, don't you know'
She says with a sigh as she starts to cry
Only one bitch in this world who knows why...

Thirteen candles to burn down these walls
Thirteen candles to see her standing so tall
Thirteen candles to melt the pieces of this one broken heart
Then fuse them into one
Thirteen candles to set this pain alight
Thirteen candles to mark the end of this fight
Thirteen candles to take such a bruised little girl
Then make her so god damn strong

PS. She's nearly 14 now with the whole world ahead of her
She's loved and happy and smart and beautiful
And everything else you said she'd never be
She never needed those thirteen candles to save her
Because she did it all by herself
She kicked you out of her life when she was twelve
Gotta love the irony

PPS. She tells you to go fuck yourself :)
