pushing it down or 2 the side tends to make it longer and more visible, so i find it works if you tuck it up in your waist band. This is less visible as most would have a slight protrusion in that area even without a boner.

The whole point of an erection is that there's enough blood in there to make it hard, so I would assume trying to bend it at such an awkward angle would be rather unpleasant. I just tuck it up (in the direction it's sticking) into my waistband. Not only is it less conspicuous, but it also seems like it would involve a lot less physical discomfort. :S
