I wasn't too sure where to put this. But it is education related I guess.

In the UK they have this programme where you can recieve up to £30 a week for continuing with full time education after school. You qualify to recieve it if your household income is no higher than £30,810 a year.

I understand a lot of people may disagree with this and say that although their parents earn more, they couldn't afford to give them or wouldn't give them £30 a week. But thats really not why i've posted about it. I've posted because I'd like to know of anybody else who gets it and to ask them if they are recieving it because maybe their parents have split up, do they count the money that another parent might give as child support? Or just the income of the parents job, It's just my dad does give my mum money each month, but I never see any of it (which is understandable) but the thing is, if I need something, she always claims to have no money and I really think EMA would help me out alot. I hate asking her for money, she gets annoyed and goes on about how now my dads gone things are hard, which I know, but I also know he gives money for me so I can have clothes etc... I just want to be able to have my own money and I'll be getting a job as soon as I'm 16 too so I don't have to ask my mum all the time.

So yeah, if that makes sense to anyone lol, do they just count your parents job income or child support etc...

Thanks.

I get EMA and it is worked off of the amount of money that the homeowner/owners earn. My parents are still together and I recieve £20 a week, I don't think it includes child support of any kind.
I found this on the website "The good news is that EMA doesn’t affect any other benefits you may already claim. So you are still free to keep claiming Child Benefit, tax credits and other types of support." http://www.direct.gov.uk/en/Parents/Moneyandworkentitlements/YourMoney/DG_067577
Not sure if that helps at all, but hope it does :)
Tbh I believe that everyone should get at least £10, because I have friends that don't get it but just because their parents earn more doesn't mean they get any of it. And it does help alot with being able to afford clothes etc, I would have had nothing decent to wear for the past few months if it wasn't for EMA lol. xD

Thanks, yeah it did help :)
And yeah I think people should get a certian amount each week but it's all about how much the government can afford too. But yeah I do agree it's not fair on those who don't get it off their parents or government ...

Thanks, I think I'll be elegible for the whole £30 :) yay.

I'm glad it helped! :woo: Congrats on the elegiblity :P
Yea, true but the amount of money that people pay in, in taxes I think it should easily be done, because there's not many people at all (in my school anyway) that don't get it. There's 2 of my friends.. 1) She has 5 younger sisters so most of the money goes on them 2) Her parents are so tight.. they won't even help her pay for her 18th party. =/
