An overweight couple from Dundee (Scotland) have had all seven children, including a newborn girl, taken into care by social workers because of their size, according to a report.

The 40-year-old mother reportedly weighs 23 stone and her 53-year-old husband weighs around 18 stone.

Some of the children also have weight problems, it is claimed.

The Daily Mirror reported that the family includes a 14-year-old boy who is 16 stone, a 13-year-old girl of 12 stone and a five-year-old girl who is four stone. Some of the children were taken into care earlier this year.

Three of the other children do not have weight problems but they and the newborn girl have been taken from the family amid they could end up like their overweight siblings.

It follows the case of a family of four with a combined weight of 83 stone who say they are "too fat to work" and need more than the £22,000 they currently receive in benefits.

In the latest obesity case, Dundee City Council intervened earlier this year after questions were raised over the care provided by the couple, who cannot be named to protect the identity of their children.

The mother gave birth to her youngest earlier this week.

No. Their parents literally cannot move around to work or support them. In no way should they be allowed to keep their children, several of whom are already on the road to leading exactly the same life. Unacceptable.

I can see both sides of the story, and I'm not sure who's right. I see the need for the kids to be taken away, but I feel bad for the parents.

They're from Dundee? Just think of what they'd be like if it weren't for all the heroin.

It doesn't matter how much the parents weigh to determine if they can take care of their kids. There are far worse people out there raising kids. This is just a waste of resources

Yes it does. If adults literally can't move enough to cook, clean, and otherwise take care of their children, they're not suited to be parents. And if they don't care enough about their children's health to instill in them healthy enough lifestyles to keep them at a normal weight, they certainly shouldn't have children in their care.

Only half the kids were obese though and apparently the parents can get food if they can get that big so that's not a problem. My cousin on my dad's side is obese and she has a 20 year old son and an 18 year old nephew who she has raised by herself. She wasn't able to get a job and she lived off of disability yet she could still get up every morning and make sure they got up and got ready for school, had food on the table, and did something constructive with their lives. So weight is not an issue in raising kids if they are taking care of what they have to. And really they weren't that overweight compared to others especially the father so I really don't see a problem.

Only half their children were obese? Only?

None of their children should be obese!

Honestly, they know they have an issue. They;re fat and they're getting money because they can't do anything. And what do they do? Teach their children habits which lead them down the same path.

Ew...

How do we know what they are teaching their children unless we are there with them? I'm saying that since only half of their kids are overweight or obese than it doesn't look like they are teaching their kids these habits.

I fully agree with this.

I don't get this, can't they see their children are heading the same way as them. If they had sense, they would learn from how they are and stop their children getting like that.
