Like water running in a stream
so flows my love for you,
like electricity it seems
with power that shows its true.
As waves that break upon the shore
increasing with the tide,
unstoppable with mounting force
this love I cannot hide.
Like autumn wind amongst the trees
disturbing all it meets,
like radiant summer sun that warms
and burns you with its heat.
Like avalanche, like maelstrom,
like raging forest fire,
at nine points on the richter scale
the force of my desire.
Canute was such an idiot
to sit upon the sand
and think that he could tame the sea
by power of his command.
So helpless too am I, I find,
