:cowboy: Brokeback Mountain is my favorite movie. It won every other best-picture award exept the Oscars. It's a work of art. Have you seen it? Want to see it? Have any questions about it? I've seen it 7 times :D

Brokeback Mountain is a sweeping epic that explores the lives of two young men, a ranch hand and a rodeo cowboy, who meet in the summer of 1963 and unexpectedly forge a lifelong connection. The complications, joys and heartbreak they experience provide a testament to the endurance and power of love. Heath Ledger and Jake Gyllenhaal deliver emotionally charged, remarkably moving performances in 'a movie that is destined to become one of the great classics of our time' (Clay Smith, The Insider).
Run Time: 2 Hours 15 Minutes
MPAA Rating: R
CARA Reasons: Sexuality, Nudity, Language and Some Violence:cowboy:

Lawreen, Jack's wife, loved him very much. At the climax of the movie, during the talk between Ennis and her, he told her that we were old buddies and herded sheep on Brokeback. She kinda added two and two at that moment. She isn't no dumbie. Back then tires really did blow up, but just the thought of Jack being killed in a hate crime...

Just noticed your post after my reply to kevins. A movie like this is just doesn't come around that often. Have you heard of a funny movie coming and winning an Oscar? (Haven't seen Scary Movie 4, but everyone gives it bad reviews) It's so sad, and plus it's revolutionary. This was a low budget movie with no animations, based in 1963. Ennis was scared of being killed because of something he saw in his childhood, and couldn't take the risk. They couldn't be together because Ennis' fear of society. Jack just wanted to live with Ennis. This is just like real life here. It WAS 1963. Not just some made up fairy-tale like Cinderella, or Beauty and the Beast. It wasn't where two people meet on a mountain, they fall in love, get forced apart, then reunited, living happily ever after. It was a 20-year affair. All of this stuff in the movie would of happened in real life. I am always behind this movie and I am getting emotional as I type this. I love this movie so much because it's not fake. It's real. Real enough. And if unaccepting religious people are going to come in here and criticize it, then I want this topic moved to the debate forum.

You should it's very good, in fact the Brokeback Mountain forums had a big campaign going on. They raised $15,000+ to put a thank you page to all the people who participated in making the movie in a magazine sent to all the stars that are part of the academy. They have an arch-bishop who is gay on that site. The church is fine with it as long as he doesn't have sex (they can't if they were straight either). (I know all about the website because my mom's a member there) There are 3876 members on the site total (just checked it). You can read about Brokeback in Wikipedia at this URL: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brokeback_Mountain and find out stuff about it such as what it got at the Box-office, the plot, the controversy and some of the awards it got. I'm trying to get a picture of the page in that magazine, and what the heck the magazine is even called.

What do you think Brokeback Mountain is about? What have you heard about it from other people or reviews? I'm keeping this thread alive because I want to know too.

I want to see it. My parents refuse to left me though. We went to see Scary Movie 4 w/ a friend of mine for my birthday and when they saw Brokeback Mountain part, my Mom looked like she was going to puke. I'm going to eventually see it at my friend's house though.

Still, do you have any questions? All people answer these questions!

1-What do you think Brokeback Mountain is about?
2-Have you seen it?
3-Want to see it?
4-What have you heard about it from other people or reviews?
5-Have any questions about it?
6-If you have seen it, what do you think about it?
7-Comments?

This isn't supposed to be a short survey, make your answers as detailed as you want.

Yeah, I know...The survey has to be upgraded a little. If anyone has any ideas, I'm right here! This survey is for anyone who has even heard of Brokeback Mountain. So if you haven't filled anything out--go ahead!

Here's my completed survey:
1-What do you think Brokeback Mountain is about? It's about two cowboys who find love on a mountain and have an affair that lasts 20 years but every moment feels like infinity...

2-Have you seen it? 7 times

3-Want to see it? N/A

4-What have you heard about it from other people or reviews? Most everybody who has actually seen it have given it very good reviews but others who have criticized it (who are usually homophobic Christians) haven't even seen it but have rated it very badly, as seen at this link: http://movies.msn.com/Movies/movie.aspx?m=565522&stab=1

5-Have any questions about it? No, but I can answer ANY questions weather you've seen it or not.

6-If you have seen it, what do you think about it? I think that this was a very good movie. The Green Mile was a spectacular movie, but it was closer the fictional side. Brokeback was so real, like it happened.

7-Comments? None at the moment

To answer Potterfile1991's question:
Why do the critics who loved it love the relationship between Jake G.'s character and Heath L's character?

A: They loved the relationship because it made the movie. When I grow up my wildest dream is to have someone that I love this much. They literally couldn't live without eachother.
You need to be relaxed for this next part. Take a deep breath and let it out slowly and keep breathing while you read this next part. Let your mind sink into it:

You're on a mountain, in Wyoming under the stars. You're sitting on a rock by a glowing campfire. It's chilly tonight, and you get closer and closer to the burning embers. You're wearing a cowboy hat and jeans with an beat-up old shirt and Jean jacket, cuddled with a light blanket. Your right side is warm and cozy, while your left side is exposed to the cold night. Shivering, you look around. You see assorted trees that are dark green and on the ground a bluish-glow from the moon over head. There is no civilization for miles in all directions. All you hear is the light wind, crackling of the fire and crickets chirping. The trees are laid out in a way to where your camp has a movie screen-like view over the sheep you're herding, sound asleep. You smell only the dew of the plants around you. You're stomach is satisfied after eating some meat of that antelope you killed earlier. You put your hands behind you and brace yourself on the rock while you tip back your head and take a deep, calm breath. You lift your head and are not startled by the sound of a horse coming towards you. You hear the horse stop and the leaves rustle a bit. You peek over your shoulder and see a man, handsome, with a cowboy hat and a old shirt, in jeans with a jacket. He walks with a slow pace towards the fire. He sits down on a similar rock and gazes at the fire. You look at him, and admire. You relax your hands between your legs and gaze at the campfire with him. You see him out of the corner of your eye looking at you but keep your relaxed look at the campfire. He lands his hand on your back and starts to rub in a circular motion. You look at him once more and see in his eyes that he is as relaxed as you are, and a smile that is so cool. He scoots onto your rock, keeping his hand on your back. He leans on you with hats touching. You look at the sheep and then slowly guide your heads to the beautiful night sky. Only 2 minutes passed.

This is similar to what happened in the movie. Seeing this bond happen for the first 1/4 of the movie (the whole time spent on the mountain) is truly stunning. This is what they love about the relationship. The intensity. The reality. The love.

Yeah I should create a thread for Donnie Darko... but do you think anybody has seen it? Brokeback was a bigger hit you must admit, so more people would of heard of it.

P.S. How was that little story I made up?

Sorry but wasn't that movie about two gay cowboys? Now I'm not saying gay ppl should be treated no more or less than straight ppl. I just don't think that would be a good move.

redcar
August 28th, 2007, 05:59 AM
Yes it was about 2 gay cowboys. Although thats debatable. But a tagline "2 bisexual cowboys" wouldn't really capture peoples attention so much.

Ok I know this thread is old but this forum doesnt get too much activity. I wouldn't recomend this film at all. The idea was good but was just a let down for so many reasons.

Well since I haven't seen it since I'm only 13 and the movie is rated R. I think that the movie public really won't see a movie that has two bi cowboys. I think it's because most of the public really won't think that it would be a movie that would intrest anybody
