It takes forever for it to start up! Is there a way to speed it up a bit?

RAM stands for Random Access Memory. It can be thought of as the place where your computer loads stuff from your hard drive. In the RAM, the processor can load it a lot faster, so more (and faster) RAM usually means a faster computer.
However, don't try messing with hardware yet. Try removing some of your start-up programs. You can do this by going to start >> run >> type in msconfig. This will bring up a menu with lots of stuff in it. Don't be frightened by everything, but don't start clicking everywhere either. In the tabs, find and select "Startup." Uncheck anything that you know you can live without starting up. Some programs are needed to make your system run like it does. Anyway, when you get through unchecking startups, OK it (or apply it) and restart you computer. If it still runs slowly, post again.

RAM I beleive is the computers Physical Memory *right click My Computer and select properties to see how much RAM you have*
Basically it decides how fast your computer will function, like my friend has 2GB of RAM. He can start up, load games, everything alot faster now. 1GB is bout $80 American. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16820145440
