You missed the point of the album completely. "The Wall" was a concept album. Concept albums tell a story. When was "The Wall" made anyway? 1981? Concept albums pretty much DIED by then. Pink Floyd had been writing the album for YEARS before they committed to it.
The point of "The Wall" was to speak out against society. It was supposed to be against a regulated society with governments. It has nothing to do with being boxed in. That's far from the point. The album alone tells a story. You just have to learn to listen *closely* to the lyrics and music to get the gist of it all. For instance, "The Lamb Lies Down On Broadway", another famous concept album by yet another famous British Prog group, was about a journey through the Underworld. Eventually, the main character finds himself able to return.
But, most people try to find their own reasons on how they feel when they listen to a particular group or album. I guess your claim can be justified, but only be your own reasons.

The White Padded Room -----> Music
Just happens to be my favorite album of all time,
Excellent choice :D
You have to watch the movie sometime, it's awesome.
I remember walking around at night all the time throughout my teen years,
Just listening to the songs over and over on my iPod.
Very easy to connect with the songs on an emotional level.
Notably my favorites are:
Comfortably Numb
Young Lust
Hey You
Goodbye Blue Sky
Empty Spaces
The Show Must Go On
Outside The Wall
Yes, Matt is right that it was a concept album.
But to each their own,
Everybody interprets things differently,
This one girl that I knew thought that Comfortably Numb was about a lobotomy.

Oh my God, I think I love you now Steph!
I LOVE "Comfortably Numb". I know it seems one-sided, but the guitar solo is pretty much the DEFINITIVE guitar solo in my music libraries. I'm surprised you didn't include "Goodbye Cruel World" and "Another Brick in the Wall".
They made a movie? I knew they filmed a concert with the full stage before they canceled the rest of the tour. If I'm right, it was called off after only 4 dates because of the size of the stagings because it would only fit in the super arenas and football stadiums. If memory serves right, I was watching VH1 Classic's "Seven Ages of Rock" and I think they said that a concert was filmed in Berlin, Germany. Correct me if I'm wrong.
What about the live audio recording? I believe it was years later that Paul Rogers did a complete live remake and released it. I have it in my CD collection but have never listened to it. I suppose I need to get my jukebox running again!

Love the CD, movie is amazing too. My favorite part is how he's like nodding on drugs on his chair watching that stupid television while his cigaratte is just ash.
But Roger waters singing in the songs wasn't hitting me as he did in the Animals album. I felt like there wasn't enough emotion in his voice and he could of done allot more.
Yes, the album is a concept album, but i think eveyone gets their own story listening to it, until you actually look at the disection of this album on the actual analysis -----> http://www.thewallanalysis.com/Intro.html
The CD and Movie are a piece of art and uses great symbolism.
10 points for someone who knows what the hammers symbolize.

Yup, it's a movie.
My dad and I got drunk and watched it on new years eve a couple years ago xD
No speaking whatsoever,
It's all just the music.
Here's the part where Comfortably Numb plays:

Just so there's no confusion,
The movie is about a rockstar,
And it follows his life from childhood until he starts 'tearing down the wall' that he's built around himself.

Just looked up the information about it on Wikipedia. I'm really upset that a live performance was never filmed professionally. That would have been awesome to see. Looking up info on the movie, it appear that Bob Geldof of all people was in the film. Awesome! Just another reason for me to get it.

That's the greatness of concept albums. It's the mental images that it can give you. Turns out you don't need drugs to have good ones :P

I completely agree get a strobe light but this album on (vinyl of course)and sit in a room and eventually you see the whole story before your eyes. I wish that some one would bring the concept album back. If only we could sing and write amazing music.
P.S everyone who has posted hear has amazing taste in music

Concept albums were never that popular to begin with. When it came time to tour for a concept album, the band/artist would play the entire album beginning to end. Of course, some albums like "The Wall" were amazing when performed live, but it didn't give the crowd the chance to hear the older songs that would usually be performed.

i would really just like some different music, that in my mind (like the wall) says yeah i am different taking a risk and might not sell well but you know what i dont care because the band loves to make music not to make money.

Another concept album you might like is "The Lamb Lies Down On Broadway" by Genesis. Probably my most favorite concept albums of all time. Take a listen.
