Ok, heres the story. i got a computer off one of the family that was totally broken and wouldnt do anything. its about a year old. 3.06GHz Intel Celeron D, 512MB RAM ect.. any way yesturday i stuck a spare hard-drive in it and installed xp, and huzzah! it worked, but the person i got it off has already ordered a new pc mening that i can use her old one here! So, i took the hard-drive out of my computer and put it in the new one and it shows the POST page then goes on to the next page saying lots of stuff with the options like: Last Known good confiugration, start windows normally, start wimdows in safe mode ect.. i have treid all those options and they all cause the computer to restart.. and i dont want to wipe the hard-drive because i have activated the copy of windows i have got too many times and also i cant back anything much up right now. so unless i can find the cd key for my copy of professional i cant put that on. but i was just wondering why it keeps on restarting on startup? im using the computer i want to put the hardrive in now but with a 1.01Gb hard-drive in it.. but help would be much appreciated :D
... hope that made sence :D

i think i have worked out a way to do it, ill give that a go tomorow :D
but yeah 1.01GB quantum fireball hdd :D its bad because i did a test on it and had a speed of 6.04mbits/s and a regular hdd now would be about 40mbits/s but its good because i can run xp on the "broken" computer off it lol :D

A gig for a hard drive is fucking tiny. I didn't realise they got made that small...
And I might be talking bullshit here but... I don't think hard drives run at a certain speed? Maybe they do I dunno.

Hey, I used to use Windows 3.1 like it was the best thing ever! :P Wasn't until I was 11 that I finally experienced Windows 9x and not until 13 that I had Windows XP. You kids are spoiled :P j/k
Anyway, the problem is that there is a major hardware clash. The computer you installed XP on had different hardware and required different drivers to boot up. The computer you put the hard drive in (the original computer) has different hardware and needs different drivers and had a clash when the different drivers were trying to load.
To fix this, all you need to do is reinstall XP while the hard drive is in the computer you want to be able to use it on. You can always take the hard drive out and get files from it on another computer, but it won't boot up from any computer that has different hardware (or different drivers needed).

I think its pretty funny you have a totally maxed out 1GB hard drive, yet you still have a file sharing program on there so you can download stuff... :P
Pinkcar, Defrag your drive, that might give you a few more mbs or something :P
I haven't really bothered reading this thread, but if you are planning on still using that computer, get a new hard drive..

im not sure about this but my dad was talking about with one of our old computers that(it doesnt recongnize the hard drive) meaning you might be missing some drivers, or it is formatted improporly. that is the only thing that can explain a 1.01 gb hard drive, considering the computer is 1 year, no way

this is a bit old now but the problem is still there.. the 1gig hdd is a spare one because the 80gig one that came with it went bust, so the 1gig one was the only one i had spare.. im just gonna ebay it in parts now
