Virus in Limewire?

Today a friend from Iowa told me that Limewire is Adware. I scanned with 3 different programs but didn't find anything. He said only certain programs pick it up, becuase its a "silent killer".

If anyone else has heard about this new Virus please post what you know here.

Ok, here's the thing. A "silent killer" isn't a virus and adware is also no virus. Limewire has never come with a virus, but... It used to come with loads of spyware/adware. My brother downloaded it recently and said it was because it no longer comes with spyware. He said he did a scan with Spybot S&D and didn't find anything out of the ordinary, but I'm not sure.

Also, be awefully careful about what you download with Limewire. It has more security flaws with some options. Most files that look like legit downloads may actually be repackaged executables or just plain viruses.

Lol. He just called it a "Silent Killer". Sort of a metaphor. And ya he was using Limewire 4.8.7 (old old). I'd rather stick to Limewire, but if I have troubles I will keep Shareaza is mind.

Yes, I know that the "silent killer" was used metaphorically, which is why I informed you that there would not be any virus or whatnot. Anyway, you should still watch what ya download ;) Nothing with 814KB as a size.. that would be a vastly spread virus...

I recently deleted lime wire for two reasons.
1) It made two of my friends computers crash
2) it's incredibly slow.

I dunno why everyone is having such troubles with Limewire lately. Eversince I got it I have had no problems whatsoever.

i use a programme called morpheus, works great, never had a virus off it, its fast, i love it :D

I used morpheus along time ago, it did work pretty well, but then I got a new program called "Grokster" i don't use it but it worked pretty well too.

I love getting downloads from Morpheus clients... always extremely fast compared to any other client. That, of course, means that they give a generous upload, which I love when I'm the one they're uploading to ;)

By the way, eDonkey and eMule are the slowest clients ever... Don't trust them either, as a lot of BSA spikes are out there.

I used to use Limewire all the time and it didn't do anything to our computer system setup here

my brother saw me getting music with it last week and went and blocked it and then killed it all by putting a password in

i tried putting our IP into his web browsers adress bar but the password pops up still

i have to find someone who will get it back for me... :lol:

any ideas?

You shouldn't try to cross your brother. Instead, try to make a deal with him. Ask him what he wants you to do to get those locks off.

i have used it without any problems but a friend of mine had his computer crash when he used it just once

it will work on some computers but not others...

and i've NEVER had a problem

oh and 123 when my sisters EVER did anything like that

no....just download, and enjoy a free limewire pro with turbocharged results....and i'm sure more stuff,
i just havent looked at all the possobilities.

Though there's something funny I've learned. Supposedly, Limewire Pro is worse than the basic one: Connects to fewer computer, has a terribly bland background and has an interface designed by a chimp. That's what I've heard from a friend whose brother paid $20 for it. What a shame... :P

Yea, since not as many people use it, you will get slower download rates. Just like with torrents, the more peers, the faster your download.

yea i don't like the pro a guy gave me a hack (w/e u wanna call it) to get it so i wouldnt have to pay and I honestly just didn't like it I didn't find it any faster and the explore button was gone and stuff like that which i found made it harder not easier to use

ok morpheus is working but the popus and ads are driving me crazy

i would upgrade to the pro for the $3 monthly but after reading about the limewire pro i must ask a question

whats better...morpheus basic or pro?

is the pro the same as limewire pro? (slower and all with less computers)

Yes, Cody, it is illegal in the US :P Though really it's just illegal to share rather than downloading.
