US President Barack Obama has sensationally won the Nobel Peace Prize, just nine months into his term, with the jury hailing his "extraordinary" efforts in international diplomacy and to hasten nuclear disarmament.
Mr Obama said he was "humbled" by the distinction but criticism has already begun as to how the award could be given so quickly.

I congratulate Mr. Obama on the award, but I have to agree that it seems a bit early to be giving the prize to him.

Are you fucking kidding me? How has he caused any peace? He's basically caused as much conflict in America as there was during the times of the Civil War and the times of the Civil Rights Movement. I haven't seen him cause any peace anywhere.
EDIT: I'm going to add the best quote I've seen about this topic thus far. "Dear Mr. President, Having the Nobel Peace Prize HANDED to you is not an accomplishment, it is a big embarrassment to America because you haven't done anything for us in order to earn it!!!"
Another quote! "The only thing he has accomplished in 9 months is he has successfully polarized this country and singlehandedly spent every dime that you and your grand-children will ever hope to make.....whats worse he is proud of it."

Congrats to him, however don't think he's done much. He's barely got anything through congress yet to deal with USA issues.

yes that is too awesome. And to the person up there i forgot that obama promised that everything we wan'ts to accomplish he could in one day. it is a process. so far the economy has taken a small but noticeable increase and
the most recent S&P/Case-Shiller Home Price Index shows that home prices today are comparable to levels seen in 2003, down approximately 33.5% from the all-time highs of 2006 prior to the recession.
he has also pulled in troops from Iraq and by 2012 we will be out of there. So it is either 2012 or 2019 as bush said. As of now every country doesn't despise us as much and he is taking troops home what more do you wan't
PS i am almost sure someone is going to bring in the Afghanistan defense and i would like to know what you think we should do. Fight terrorists that wan't to bomb and kill us or leave them to there own devices so they can kill us at there own leisure.
Oh and might i also add we are no longer a Christian nation and that is good now our forefathers are no longer turning in there graves

This post made almost no sense whatsoever. I have no clue what you are talking about.

They don't give the Nobel Peace Prize to any random person they find on the street. Obviously, he deserved it. I congratulate him.
And Justin, America was never a Christian nation, it was pretty much formed so people could follow whatever religion they wanted.

I have to jump in and say I disagree. Ok the on the money it says "In God we trust" it doesn't say "In Buddha we trust" or "In Allah we trust". If it isn't they why politics is pretty surrounded by god? In speeches, they mention god on a normal basis, not Buddha or Allah. In court "You promise to tell blah blah blah, so help you god.
My 2 cents.
And on topic, I'm surprised, that is all.

and I think all of that, save the speeches -- which i still think need to be revised some, isn't legal.
also, allah is god in arabic. that really annoys me when people think it's a different god, it's just a different way to belieive in him/her/it/whatever.

He doesn't deserve it, plain and simple. If he pulled troops out of Afghanistan and Pakistan then it may be more deserved. But no...just no.

I do agree that it's to early to be giving him this award, he even said himself that he doesn't think he deserves it. That being said, it's a positive thing, I don't see a reason to be angry over it, nor ecstatic.
Because of Obama, our prospects of getting out of the middle east with as few scratches as possible has inclined dramatically. Apparently, many more terrorists are being killed now that he's in office (A little ironic, but still in the direction of peace) including the most wanted terrorist in south-east Asia, Noordin Top (Yes, I did just look that up, but facts are facts).
So while I do think the award is premature, I think eventually he will deserve it, and that this is just a reminder to him of how essential that is right now.

Well, JackofClubs (sorry, don't know your name) is right. This nation was not formed originally as a Christian nation. If I'm not mistaken, and please correct me if I'm wrong, the United States was formed from Protestants who seperated themselves from the Church of England. It may say "In God We Trust" on our printed notes, but that doesn't mean we are a completely Christian nation. Different states usually differ in religion. So don't always make one religion out to represent the country.
On topic: I'd like to see his qualifications to earn something like this. Since he's been on the ballot for this since his first two weeks in office, I want to see how he's done anything to earn the award. I'm not going to say congrats to him only because I can't understand the thinking of the voters. He doesn't deserve it.

I'm just curious, what did he do to deserve it? I haven't really seen a lot of things that are so amazing for him to deserve the Nobel Peace Prize, but I may be wrong because I usually don't read news articles about anything.

Or at least everyone makes him out to be. I'm getting tired of all the Obama-maniacs in my town.
