Does anyone else feel that our schools arent really teaching us important things anymore. They teach us how to take tests.....not how to function in real life. What do you guys think about it, I think its bretty bogus. We are just average...this is america, we should be smart!

Well, I do agree with you on that they are teaching us things that we would most likely never use in real life, for example; Art, History, Religion.
Although I live in Canada I share your pain. I go through school everyday, going through 40 minutes of french everyday.. Its hell. I will definately never use French in my life since I dislike the whole culture with a passion. The only neccesary subjects there are in my opinion are math, science, and english. Thats it..

They say universitys are just as bad and allot of employers now are looking more towards students that went to college because a college has ALLOT of hands on real world practise where a university its all theory they give you a book to read...

Well... school is pretty constraining...the seven hours a day spent in classes being told what to do...and most of the students have absolutely no interest in school because of it. I think that's why most student who dropout of school decide to dropout...because of lack of interest. (Although in some cases several reasons influence the decision.)
I think being the inflexibility of school makes it hard for students to be interested. Lucky for me, I live in a school district where you can complete high school in three different forms: day school, e-school, and school lessons through correspondence, all three of which I plan to use...
In my state, a student can leave school on their sixteenth birthday with a parent-supervised conference with the principal and a school waiver signed by the parents. Some states allow students to leave school at 14, some make students wait until age 18. Whatever the case may be, when a student is forced into going and has no choice, it is constraining. Students DO need education, but there are many ways educational experiences can happen.
I don't go to school. I'm an independent learner...meaning, I decide what I learn, when, and how I learn it...and this is perfectly legal. The school district officials don't want parents or students knowing this, though. According to the U.S. Constitution, a "man is not required to send his child to school of which he is opposed." But, the parent must provide an education for the child.
I will start taking online classes this summer, and I will go back to school in the fall of '07.
The American Educational system leaves a lot to be desired, but with limited funding of education, nothing can be done. :(
Ah man, I wanna be an independant learner as well. School isn't working for me. Homework doesn't work for me, even when I actually do it. If I could set up the way I'd be taught, learning would be great. But there's no one to tutor me.

That's how my school is, they teach us how to pass the FCAT so we can graduate and such and get out of their classrooms. If there's not a possibility of it being on the FCAT then they don't think it's worth the time to spend teaching it to us.

but its not the teachers that are at fault here.
there following rules passed down by state legeslation.
if we want to make a difference in our schools, instead of complaining, we should write our legeslators.

The people who decide what we learn don't know what we are going to be doing when we are older, so they don't know what skills, and knowledge we need to know. They can't go "This kid is gonna be a doctor when he grows up, put him in anatomy."

no but those advanced forms of education should be taught at college.
once you get to high school, the empisis should not be on math english etc.
but on proper finalcial, economics, polotics, computer etc.
things people need to know to function in society.
