Health chiefs have launched a "full and urgent" investigation into the death of a 14-year-old girl after she was given a cervical cancer vaccine at school.

Post-mortem tests into the exact cause are understood to be held on Tuesday.

The girl, named locally as Natalie Morton, died in hospital on Monday after receiving the Cervarix jab at the Blue Coat CofE School in Coventry.

The batch of the vaccine used has been placed into quarantine as a "precautionary measure".

I actually love jabs.

My parents wouldn't let me to have the vaccination though, due to reasons much like this. :/

I had the jab last week. My friend had a bad reaction to it, fainted and fitted. Thank god she never stopped breatheing. I dont mind the jab. Just think they should give us clearer warnings of the more severe side effects.

Actually, that sort of reaction can happen with any vacination.

Actually, that sort of reaction can happen with any vacination.

Indeed, there are always some people who suffer an allergic reaction, or who otherwise have side-effects that the average population doesn't. This applies to everything you put in your body, from vaccines, to antibiotics, to vitamins, to food, etc. Also, sometimes a batch of a vaccine (or any drug) is somehow contaminated or differs from the way it should be which can cause issues. Seeing as how no one else seems to have died from those school vaccinations, I'd assume that this was an isolated incident. If it's related to the vaccine, it's just how this one girl reacted and the rest of us don't need to get paranoid.

According to the article, this vaccine has a different name than the one I recently received but I assume it's similar. In the US, you've all probably heard of Gardasil, that's the one which protects against HPV, including the strands which can cause cervical cancer. When I got my second dose (I guess they do that one in three different visits, each 3 months apart), the nurse made me sit in the waiting room for 15 minutes afterwards before I could leave, to make sure I didn't get nauseas or dizzy or anything like that. So, they do try to keep everyone safe, it's not a matter of not knowing the side-effects.

Any vaccine can be looked up on the internet and checked out through a reputable source. Also, vaccines such as Gardasil are often advertised on television where some common side-effects are rattled off as well as some health conditions that don't mix well with the vaccine so those affected can just not get the vaccine. Their doctor should pay close enough attention to not give it to them in that case, but the information is still easily available to the public.
